Recently I purchased a Sony DSC WC210 (sometime during Sept'09) for my wife for point and shoot. I already have a Cannon DSLR.

Overall I am somehow OK with the camera but not entirely happy. I was rather impressed with the Cannon Powershot (could not buy because that model was not in the stock). By now, I might have taken close to 700 snaps with different conditions. Here are my observations. By the way, the photo that appears in the list is not of this model.

Positive comments

  1. Very good picture quality. I like the details in the picture.

  2. Daytime or in a adequate lighting condition, it takes great picture.

  3. In a short distance, flash is also OK.

  4. I have tried dimly lit areas (restaurants, dinning) with flash. I am satisfied with the picture.

  5. Always choose vivid color option. I am happy with color details and clarity.

  6. With a tripod and in a low light area (again not too low, these camera is not meant for this), without flash, it works ok.

Negative Comments

  1. Pathetic macro. While focusing from a close distance of 2cm, it can't focus. You will notice that the object becomes sharp and goes away. Seems that, it has the capability but it could not. Cannon is much better in this case. This is useful while capturing a close up texture or water droplet etc.

  2. Absolutely no control over shutter speed and aperture. I miss badly these controls. Needed in low light or fast moving scenes. Cannon has it.

  3. Some of the pre-settings like fireworks, beach, aqarium does not produce desired result. I am really disaponted with them.

  4. Need a better batterly life.

  5. My camera has developed some crackling sound while operating, though it operates fine.

  6. Well, the more I use it. the more I find it unusable to my liking.7. For some reason, image quality (from sharpness point of view) is not that sharp when you really expand it. I have always noticed minute details are a little blurred/shaken. This can be due to shake  but it is consistent with almost all the pictures. No idea, what is the purpose of the "stability" mode. Even in that mode it is not that sharp.
