I personally am a fan of Shobha De’s books. She is bold and deals with subjects untouched by others in her unique style. Small Betrayals is a collection of her stories, 14 in total. I had borrowed this book from one of my friends and read two stories a night on average, before going to sleep.
A few of the stories were pretty interesting- just reflections of the Indian modern society. Shobha De does a great work of taking Indian fiction to a level, from where many other contemporary Indian Authors have started writing.
In one story, she deals the background of the Mumbai riots- where one Hindu woman and her Muslim husband get entrapped. Then there is another where a young vivacious girl gets married to a 51 year old individual. Shobha De makes some bold statements through these stories. Although not very high profile from point of view of Literature, I found these stories amusing(most of them) due to her lucid style and liberal attitude as a writer.
