At the outset let me tell you that I wanted to write this article as on 10-greatest dialogues in Tamil history, but mouthshut would not create a separate category for it, but I was desperate to have this article posted as it had involved quite a bit of thinking from my brain (?? yes surprisingly I seem to retain some despite my profession). When I glanced through it, I found that half of the dialogues were that of Sivaji ganesan's. So I thought, I'll put it here.
Words are not just words. They are an encapsulation of a personality. Every word is a result of a million permutations. Every word spoken, in turn, speaks volume about its speaker.
We are a slave to the words we speak and the master of the ones we did not
There are few words that have had far greater impact than anyone could have imagined.
In this compilation, I would attempt to put 5 most powerful dialogues uttered in Tamil movies.
These dialogues instantly identify the movie and the character. They have left a lasting and time-tested impression.
The dialogues are not in the order of its popularity or greatness.
Viluppuram Chinnaiah Ganesan aka Shivaji Ganesan
He needs no introduction. Shivaji Ganesan soared skywards to attain super stardom after the success of ''Parasakthi'' his first film. His talent to deliver long passages of dialogues, found great favor with Tamil moviegoers. Screenwriters wrote scenes and passages of lengthy dialogue in their scripts. After 1952 Sivaji Ganesan dominated Tamil film cinema scene and acted in many a film.
His mobile face, expressive eyes, fascinating voice possessing a wide range of inflections and his capacity to get under this skin of the roles he played, all these qualities bestowed on him great success which he rightly deserved! During the career of nearly 40 years he has acted in hundreds of films and portrayed a bewilderingly large variety of roles, you name the role and he has done it! He is equally at home in serious, tragic comic and every kind of role the filmmakers can create.
Film: Parasakthi(1952)
Odinaal odinaal , vazhkaiyin orathikae odinal
This film marked the entry of Sivaji into the arena. This film has almost become synonymous with the court scene where sivaji speaks a lengthy dialogue describing the plight of his sister at the hands of evil men. ''She ran, she ran, she ran till the brink of existence'' symbolized the powerful writing of the DMK supremo M.Karunanidhi. His powerful dialogues rendered with twice the vigor by Sivaji dawned a new era in Tamil film industry.
Film : Veerabandiya kattabomman (1959)
En kula pengaluku manjal araithu kuduthaya, ni enna maamana machana
This epic story of the legendary freedom fighter Veerapandia Kattabomman, reached the entire audience mainly due to an indomitable performance of the legendary Late Shivaji Ganesan. Veerapandia Kattaboman was an almost forgotten hero until a former minister M.P.Sivagyanam wrote his story which was later made as a film. The above mentioned dialogue is the conversation between Kattabomman and British Lord while the latter asks the Indian king to pay his taxes. Today the whole TamilNadu knows veerapandia Kattabomman only as Sivaji uttering this dialogue.
Film: Manohara(1954)
Poruthadhu podhum pongi ezhu
Yet another feather in Sivaji's cap. This film epitomes a dutiful son's love for his mother and his motherland, so much that even when chained by his tormentors, he waits for his mother's order to rebel against his father and cruel stepmother. This dialogue almost instantly reminds Sivaji in shackles.
Film: Thiruvilayadal(1965)
Netrikan thirapinum kutram kutramae
This monumental epic adventure detailing the various incarnations of lord Shiva, was a phenomenal musical and a showcase of rare acting talent. Every single dialogue in this movie is a bible to any Tamil movie lover. Though this film contained some immortal scenes like the impersonation by the poet Darumi (a lifetime performance by nagesh), the musical duel between panapathrar (T.R. Mahalingam) and Hemanadha Bagavadhar (Baliah), the wordily duel between lord Shiva and the court poet Nakeeran go high on rating. The poet finds fault with poetry written by the lord himself. In response, lord Shiva opens his 3rd eye indicating who he is. But Nakeeran, in his love for the language, says that despite showing the 3rd eye, a fault remains a fault. Yet another unmatched performance by Late Sivaji.
Film: Thevar Magan(1992)
Oru paatu paadu di , rasaathi
An outstanding film that had two stalwarts performing to their peak. But clearly Sivaji stole the show from Kamal. Probable his best performance. Subdued yet his body language spoke an encyclopedia on acting.

These are just some that instantly came to my mind. There may be other notable omissions like ''Adiyae gaandha'' from Rathakanneer by MR Radha.
