We came to Shimla just to enjoy the toy train as in Manali we had heard there is nothing much to see in Shimla and climate too is very hot. We took the toy train at 8.30 in the morning. Please note that there are trains at every hour but these trains are not listed on the irctc site and you can directly take the ticket at the station itself.
We had heard a lot about the toy train but believe me after you have been to manali you would not enjoy the train journey as it was very hot and the forest was totally dry without a single drop of water in the streams. The journey would have been fine for an hour or two but to sit for 7 hrs is a pain especially when there is no quality food en route and when you could reach in 4 hrs by bus.
After reaching Kalka we booked a hotel for overnight stay and took a train next morning. Please do not waste your money and time on this place. May be winter would be different.
