He was the man we loved to hate, yet probably the Aussie who we will miss the most! What a legend and without doubt the greatest ever. Like Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher and Roger Federer, he dominated his sport and will go down as the first spin bowler that was actually a "strike bowler". As for his off field antics, who gives a damn anyway, he more than made up for it on the field. I never thought I would say this about any Aussie, but we will miss him.

Although it will be a relief that he won't haunt our batsmen anymore, which is what he did since our re-admission. Here to you Warney you are and always will be the greatest. Thanks for all the entertainment. Thank God for that!!!Seriously though, he is a legend in his own lifetime. One of, if not the greatest bowler of all time. I would just like to thanks Shane for all the entertainment and sheer brilliance he has brought to cricket lovers over the last 13 years. My earliest cricketing memory is watching the world cup semi final in '99 when Australia beat South Africa.

Warney's delivery to Gibbs which pitched about 6 inches outside leg stump and hit the top of off, turned the course of the game and turned me instantly in to an avid cricket fan and aspiring leg spinner (though not a very good one!) I've been looking forward to seeing the back of Warne for a while now, in the hope it will make the task easier on England. Sir Donald Bradman was the greatest cricketer to have ever lived. Shane Warne was, however, the greatest bowler to have ever lived.

What he can't do with a cricket ball isn't worth doing. Quite simply, it was a privilege to have had him playing in our lifetimes. What he did on the cricket field was the only thing that matters to us fans, and the man was an absolute genius. Words cannot describe what he did for the art of leg spin bowling, and cricket itself over the last 15 years, as evidenced by the comments coming from people all over the world on this page. He has won countless Test matches for Australia by himself over his career, and it is just shattering to see him leaving.

However, it is now an exciting time for Australian cricket to see who will come up through the ranks to fill the boots of Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath. I, for one, can't wait for next season! But until then, in Melbourne and Sydney, I'll stand and applaud a genius, and no matter what we think of him as a person, one thing's for sure: We will miss him when he's gone. Thanks for the memories Shane. You are a true great of the game Shane and it is a privilege to have been able to watch you all these years.

Unlike Murali, Shane has taken wickets on unhelpful pitches and have been able to produce consistently every time you play. You are the greatest. Thank God for video tape!! Simply the greatest bowler I've seen. Let's hope he graces these shores for a while longer, The best there has ever been - simple as thatBottom of Form. A lot of Aussies claim he is second to Sir Don, Like many others I was not alive when Sir Don was about. So for me Shane Warne is the greatest cricketer ever.

Warne is a genius, no two ways about it. I consider myself privileged to have witnessed his heroics. The cricket world has lost it's greatest draw card and may take decades to recover, as I do not see anyone right now who can step up. Murali may overtake Warnie, but he hasn't had to share wickets with the likes of McGrath. Warne was a character that cricket in my view will never have again. On the pitch his bowling genius intimidated batsman all over the world and made him an idol for youngsters who played cricket.

His bowling was outstanding and the 699 test wickets shows how much of a threat he was. Cricket is losing a great player and competitor and its a massive loss to everyone who enjoys watching cricket. Warney the complete master of the most difficult of all bowling skills. I would pay the admission fee just to watch him bowl. However, I now feel sad that he has announced his retirement; he is truly the best spinner ever and a great entertainer. Hope he knows how much the English like him!

I've been looking forward to seeing the back of Warne for a while now, in the hope it will make the task easier on England. Thanks for the memories Shane, you are retiring at the right time - at your best. The main reason I bother to watch cricket. A great player but more importantly a great guy. Legend! The cricketing world will definitely miss Warney. And you will definitely see an Australian team slide from its current status as the world's best team. Warne is one of the greatest characters to have ever played the game.

He changed cricket by resurrecting leg-break bowling. He is a great thinker of the game, and as has been pointed out, probably best captain Australia have never had. He has also weighed in with important runs at key times, although it will always irk him if he never gets a Test Hundred. Incredible, unbelievable, incomparable and a complete legend. As much as I, like millions of others no doubt, groaned and wished he wasn't playing against my team, I'm glad he came along in this era as I've grown up watching the best bowler of all time.

History will see him as such. Sorry to see him go but delighted he is going out playing as well as he ever was. And I can't believe we will no longer hear Gilly's "BOWLED WARNE-AH!" cries from behind the stumps!!! Without doubt the best Cricketer in my lifetime, the game will not be the same if he quits, lets hope he's around a long time. Shane, you will be missed both in Australia and England but for very different reasons!!!! You were, simply the best. Shane Warne has changed the face of cricket and has so often been the nemesis of England.

A wonderful character that has always enlivened any game he has ever played in. There can be no end to the superlatives - what a character. I hate him!!! But then I'm English Love him or hate him you have to admit Shane is the best bowler ever and only one person can ever say that! Probably only when he stops playing will his critics finally realise how wrong they were - come on, one more year eh Shane? A wonderful cricketer and a fantastic character, Shane Warne has it all. Without doubt the greatest ever spin bowler and perhaps the greatest ever cricketer. Shame he wasn't English.

I'm sure we could find a job for him as bowling coach though!!! A true great for the game. The greatest spinner to step foot on the planet in over 100 years in the game. A true great, just one problem why couldn't he have retired before this ashes then England might have got somewhere! True great Shane, Im going to miss all them comments from Gilly now saying " awww nice one shane" The best bowler to walk this planet. If those in charge of English cricket have any sense they should contract Shane for at least the next ten years and pay him as much as it takes for him to pass on the skills he has learnt as a leg spinner to up and coming young English cricketers.
