Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a die hard albeit somewhat failed rocker.

The movie begins with Dewey playing a guitar solo and jumping into the crowd in true rocker style

Alas the crowd, instead of holding him, parts and lets him fall to the floor.

His band, which he founded, kicks him out b'cos of his being a perpetual embarassment.

Dewey now tries to form another band with just one aim. To win the ''Battle of the Bands'' contest.

His room-mate Ned (Mike White) who works as a substitute teacher and is an ex-rocker himself asks him to cough up the rent or move out.

Desparate for cash, a phone call by Principal Mullins (Joan Cusack) to his roomie

is intercepted by Dewey who then lands up at the school pretending to be a teacher.

Dewey has no intention of doing any work with the pupils and is quite content to

give them a two week recess. But when he listens to his class of

10 year olds playing classical music during music class, he plans to turn them

into a rock band and win the ''Battle of the Bands''

Althought the plot is simple enough the ending is NOT CLICHED and you just have to sit back and love the film.

Jack Black is the soul of the film. A rocker in real life (he is one half of rock band 'Tenacious D') he is simply superb.

The character of Dewey Finn avoids the cliche where such characters would turn all reformed in the end here he remains unscrupulous to the end.

The kids, most of them first timers, can really act.

The movie takes music seriously. The soundtrack features AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and more.

There are also some great original songs too although the centre piece song School Of Rock disappoints. Jack Black also writes several of the songs and also sings on them.

This is one movie which kids can enjoy and even we grown ups too.

It's a movie which ROCKS.
