I happened to forcefully watch this serial once because my mother was watching it and then one question popped up in my mind - Do Indian television writers grow up listening to fantasy tales from their grandmother? Or are they dumb enough to not put an end to something they can no longer handle? The answer is still a big mystery. The consequences of me watching this serial was rather weird with me almost on the verge of fainting after 10 minutes into the serial. Such great is the story(a very strong pun intented).
Sasural Simar Ka, airing on Colors, from Monday to Saturday is an Indian soap drama serial that involves around the story of two sisters, Simar and Roli, who are married to the sons of the Bharadwaj family. The show tells the journey of Simar and her struggle in fighting the obstacles that her life has to offer after marriage.
Now, the name Sasural Simar Ka, means the Simar's In-Law. From every aspect, the show is supposed to depict the life of Simar in her in-law house. Actually, the show does just the opposite. Everything other than reality is shown in the show.
Initially, when the show started, it focused on the life of Simar and her struggles. Simar's sister Roli, a chirpy bubbly girl, had been an active support for her even after her marriage. The sisters strive forward together staying by each other's side in life's journey. So far so good. Then I guess, the writers completely forgot or had a memory loss. Hence they started making whatever that came to their mind.
A few months into the serial, and comes the entry of an Icchadhari Naagin. I mean what the hell? Seriously? An icchadhari naagin in a daily family soap. Since when did daily soap makers take the nagin concept so seriously? As if this was not enough, the show creates the death of the male lead, who is Simar's husband. And then, the icchadhari nagin brings the dead back to life by creating him a naag. WOW! What a story! I wish I had such a nagin to bring every dead back to life. This is a pure non-sensical kind of story and happens only when the makers have gone lunatic and lack any further intuition to advance the show. Of lately, the show has taken a supernatural twist with the advent of the new Patali Devi. Rather than a drama serial, it should have been termed as a Fantasy show for kids. The serial which was supposed to focues on daily lives of a married women has been doing everything other than that.
Talking about the characters, the very talented Avika Gor of Balika Badhu fame has been completely wasted. She had done a great job in her earlier serial but this time, unfortunately didn't have much of a show to offer. Deepika Samson as Simar is convincing, but considering the bizzare storyline of the serial, she has no other option but to cope up with it.
The other casts are simply doing their job for the sake of it.
I really don't understand how such serials even go on for a more than a year. It should be stopped at once or some new plot should be introduced, that makes sense. Don't ever watch this drama.
