After 52 reviews of this film, I feel that there is no need to analyze the plot anymore. This review deals just with a critical appreciation of the film itself. For details of the plot please read the other reviews of the film at MS

The film starts with a short note from Ram Gopal Verma.....This movie is a dedication to The Godfather. The story line is surely that of the classic movie, The Godfather and a book by the same name by Mario Puzo. But this is not just another remake of a firangi flick for the desi audience. Watching the film will surely force you to appreciate the sheer brilliance of the film maker.

WHAT IS SARKAR?

The film in general deals with the idea of power. The film questions the authority of a particular person to decide on behalf of the people. The film leaves that question to be answered by the people.

Sarkar ek soch hai...Sarkar is a state of mind. When the government fails to deliver the promises it has made to the people, there rises a parallel system to fulfill the needs of the people, to exercise authority over the people, to stand firm on any decision that is beneficial to the people even if the whole system is against that decision. This is Sarkar.

Amitabh Bachchan plays Sarkar in the movie.

THE PLOT IN GENERAL

The plot deals with revenge and retribution.

Amitabh Bachchan plays Subhash Nagre or Sarkar...a father figure not only to the family but also to the people. He has two sons, Vishnu, played by KayKay, who turns against him and Shankar, played by his real life son, Abhishek Bachchan, an America return man who doesn't know a thing about the dirty game of politics.

In due course of time, people who are against Sarkar hatches a plan to erase out the very thought process of a Sarkar. Vishnu becomes an aide in this plan. But now they don't just have Sarkar standing in front of them but also his son, Shankar. The story is about how the reins of power is transferred from one generation to other.

FILM-MAKING

The quality of film making is as usual brilliant which is a trademark of Mr. Verma. Everything technical like editing, cinematography, background music was just perfect. The sets designed kept well with the storyline. The costume design could have been worked upon.

Coming to the treatment of the subject, the first half was a bit slow, but that was needed to fully understand the intricacies of the various characters. The second half sets the real story in motion.

The performances of the actors, to put it mildly, was power-packed. Seeing Abhishek Bachchan act so well was a real treat to the eyes. KayKay was as usual good. Supriya Pathak played her role well. But the show stealer was, of course, Amitabh Bachchan.

The film will work well with audiences irrespective of the regional differences because it deals with one of the favourite topics of Indians....politics.

CONCLUSION

In the end I would like to say that this is a must-watch movie not just for RGV fans or Amitabh fans, but for every individual who has even a small interest in movies. So do watch this movie to get a real treat of good moviemaking.
