If you want to have a break from the fast city life, then you should definitely visit Sapuatara. It is really the best place to chill and will make you feel relaxed

I travelled to Saputara with my family in a Tata Sumo on November 8, 2005. If you are from Mumbai, then you can reach Saputara via Thane, Shahapur, Igatpuri and Nashik(255 kms). If you are traveling by car, then you should stop at Manas Resort at Igatpuri for a food-break.

Saputara has a lots of places to see and is unpolluted and a quite place. The temperature is not so high even in summer. The whole town is located around the lake. There is also a small market which consists of a chemist store, a clinic and a lot of stalls selling food items like corn, Wada Pav, Pav Bhaji, Samosa, Poha, beverages like tea, coffee, Limbu pani, Soda, etc. There are also some stalls which sell toys, wooden articles.

HOTELS IN SAPUTARA:

1.Hotel Anando: The hotel where I stayed. It is a nice, simple and a 3-star hotel. It has 24 well-furnished Non-AC rooms and each room gives specatular view of the Saputara lake. Even the food is very nice here. The only problem is that one has to climb a lot of stairs to reach the reception and even more to reach the rooms. So if you have a senior citizen with you during your trip, please do not stay here.

2.Savshanti Lake Resort: It is the hotel just opposite to Hotel Anando. It is an excellent hotel and each room gives a beautiful view of the lake. It has the facility of buffet dinner/lunch. One can enjoy the food in the open and also hear latest Hindi songs which are played in the background.

  1. Vaity Ropeway Resort: Another good hotel in Saputara. It is located right at the point where the ropeway starts(The ropeway is organized by this grand hotel). It consists of Non-AC rooms, a veg restaurant, a non-veg restaurant, a conference hall and a play area. The only problem with Vaity is that it is a bit far away from the Saputara town and the road that leads to this hotel is steep and not proper.

  2. Hotel Patang: This magnificent hotel is just besides the lake. It is a reasonable hotel and along with a veg restaurant and a play area, it also has a swimming pool.

  3. Hotel Chitrakoot: Please do not stay here. It has a lot of stairs to climb and it is not as good as other hotels in Saputara. The only plus-point of this hotel is that it has a lot of greenery around it.

Besides these hotels, there was also Hotel Lake View, GTDC Resort and Hotel Shital

PLACES OF INTEREST:

1.Ropeway: The most famous attraction of Saputara. It gives a joyful ten minute ride across the valley. It starts from Hotel Vaity, goes towards the sunset point, takes a U-turn and returns back to its starting point. It gives a spectacular view of the whole hill-station. It charges Rs. 40 per person. Heart-patients, diabeticx, mentally-ill person cannot take this ride.

2.Lake Boating: Boating in the Saputara lake is an unforgettable experience. Just hop in a rowing or paddle boat and enjoy the beautiful views of resorts, green trees and prople enjoying the hill-station.

3.Nageshwar Mahadev Temple: This temple is just besides Savshanti Lake Resort. It has the idol of Lord Shiva and is visited by a lot of people.

4.Sunrise point: This point, now renamed as Valley View Point, provides beautiful view, not only during sun-rise, but at any time of the day.

5.Saputara Mueseum: This is located at the main market side. It gives a lot of information about Saputara and the Dang tribals that live nearby.

6.Step Garden: This garden is just besides Hotel Shital. It only has steps and therefore, the name. It is okay if you don’t visit this place.

7.Honey Bees Centre: It is a place that gives information about bees and how honey is made. You even get pure(and costly) honey from here

8.Echo Point: This point is near Hotel Chitrakoot gives spectacular view of the valley and makes a huge giant echo! Don’t miss it!

9.Lake Garden: This place is near Hotel Anando and is a nice relaxing spot

There are also other places like Sunset point, Artist Village, Mini-Aquarium and Rose Garden.

On the whole, Saputara is a nice place and if you are living around Mumbai or Surat, then you should definitely visit this place
