My son, Saiganesh Padmanabhan, residing in Bangalore, wanted to send me his Stay Fit Treadmill to my house at Nellore. He got in touch with M/s Saptagiri Packers and Movers at JP Nagar, Bangalore, who undertook to carry it through one of their carriers without dismantling it to my doorsteps for a fee of Rs.3000/-. Though my son thought that the amount charged was too much on the higher side, he somehow wanted the item to be sent to me at the earliest and therefore, he agreed to shell it down.
But, when the packers & movers came to his residence, they changed the version. They convinced my son stating that dismantling it and sending it would be safer and charged another Rs.300/- for packing. He paid the entire amount (Rs.3000 freight & Rs.300 for packing) in advance and the firm had got it packed at the residence of my son and lifted the Treadmill from there.
Even after a week, it was not delivered and when my son got in touch with the firm (one Mr. Raju is the contact person and his mobile number is 9845345273), he was informed that he had sent it by Navata Transport to Nellore. Having assured him to move it by his own carrier, he consigned it to Nellore through another transport, paying Rs.364/- (The LR number is 061582 dated 28-05-2013).
When Navata Transport had informed him that delivery at the door steps of the consignee would cost Rs.400/-, he went to my son and paid him back Rs.400/- and asked him to advise me to pay that amount and get the item delivered at my house.When the item finally reached my house, the rod attached to the handle of the Treadmill was bent and for fixing it, quite an effort had to be made.
By spending just Rs.500 or so, my son could have taken it direct to Navata himself and avoided the payment of Rs.3300 for the purpose. The firms like Saptagiri make tall claims about their infrastructure and ultimately hoodwink the clients and make for themselves a handsome gain in the bargain.
