Well you must have been already familiar with the 2990 sansui 1104 sr dvd player which I think is the cheapest branded dvd player in the market. And my search for the ultimate budget buy ended with this sansui . Heres my market experience
June 2005 market exploration for dvd player begins. Starts with all local electronic shops, each of the shop has their own recommendation of dvd players for instance one was offering lg for 3500 and mitashi for same price but both were 2.1 channels . The next shop pressed on phillips which was around 4000 for 2.1 channel. The third shop showed akai, philips, videocon, sansui. only videocon and sansui had 5.1 channels in the 3000-3500 range. Rest all companies 5.1 started at 4000.
So I opted for sansui . Excited with the 5 free dvd titles I got. I adjusted the dvd set and watched movie.
Picture quality : was good no complaints.
Features : for the price I think it had all the features main being the 5.1 and dolby with composite, component and s video outputs.
Playback : It is a very sensitive player. Do not expect your scratched and soiled discs to be played in this. Infact it has a very big warning sticker on manual saying do not use pirated and low quality discs. Some dvd movies showed a slight layering effect which changing chapters.
Sound : was good no complaints.
But alas one fine day after one month of my purchase of dvd player in middle of my listening to music. It stops the cd and then never accepted any cd again . I was sure the lens had gone. And fears came true when took it to dealer and he confirmed. And I was not alone many people already had listed the lens problem complaint with the dealer. So I guess it was not a one off incident it was a generic problem with the model.
The cd lens for that model are not available with the company and I am still awaiting the dvd player.
to cut the long story short. IT has all the features, the best price ,but unfortunately I think the lens is a substandard one.
So all those who have been lured of the price and features please do not go for this dvd player.
