I think the reason Bollywood film makers come up with unceasable romance movies every year is because it is the safest bet one can take. It doesnt involve much of an investment and almost every time strikes a chord with the Indian audience, thus the profit is secured, who cares whether the film is a hit or not? Or whether it is worth watching? Its only about the money. And thats exactly where they go wrong.
Sanam Re falls into those categories of movies which can be strictly avoided if you are looking for a good movie with applausible script, wonderful acting and breath-taking cinematography. Directed by Divya Khosla of Yaariyan fame which somehow garnered a good response, Sanam Re released on Feb 12, 2016.
The film stars Yami Gautam, Pulkit Samrat and Urvashi Rautela in the lead.
I watched this movie yesterday and let me tell you a brief details of this movie. Starting with the story, its the same old Bollywood soup in a new bowl and now it feels disgusting to pass down the throat. Sanam re is the story of two lovers, the way they meet and then part and meet again and this goes on. But soon in their life, their is an intrusion in the form of another girl who falls in love of the guy. What happens next? Who wins the guy? These questions need to answered on the theatre but who cares? I dont. The movie goes with an extremely blunt plot. I mean in an age with such talented writers and eye-catching stories, the writer could have done better rather than sticking to the usual routine. If a love triangle is to be watched, the vampire love story Twilight series be watched rather than investing time and moolah on this one.
The casting of the movie is good but the actors have completely been wasted. Pulkit who gave an ace of a performance in Fukrey somehow fails to retain the same charm in this new movie. Yami Gautam seems to have struck bad luck after her debut movie Vicky Donor and nothing seems to go right for her. Urvashi Rautela is a pure embarrassment. She is only for those ample amount of cleavages and booty, and nothing else. Rishi Kapoor as the grandfather is good and natural. Rest of the cast passes by un-noticed.
Songs of Sanam Re are somewhat a saving grace for the movie. The title track sung by Arijit Singh is a good one for the ears. Other songs like Gajab Ka Ha Ye Din and Hua Hai Aaj Pehli Baar are also worth listening. Hence it can be said that the music directors have done a fair bit of their job.
Choreography is another horrible aspect of this movie and at points, it seems funny. In todays age where dancers like Hrithik and Shahid literally heat the floor to fire, there are movies like this which depict that would make even Prabhu Deva shy. I think they didnt watch ABCD or its later part.
Frankly speaking, Sanam Re is a strictly passable movie and can be avoided if you want. there is nothing new to watch out for in this movie and I literally had to force myself to stay awake throughout the runtime of the movie. I dont recommend it at all.
