Beware. Review on Samsung SGH - P300

This latest Samsung mobile, looks so different, flat like credit card, at first glance looks like calculator. Neat. It has a leather case provided and the case contains a 2nd battery, if you charge the phone while in the case both batteries charge at the same time. They say that you have 8 hours talk time and weeks on standby. It has MP3 player, camera, camcorder, MMS, all the usual things the latest mobiles have. However, even on the loudest setting, I can hardly hear it ringing, I can only use the 'ring ring' not any music for incoming calls because it is not loud enough to hear, maybe if you are in the house and there is no other sounds you might hear it, but if any other noise at all, you have no chance.

Same for the MP3 I cannot have it loud enough to really hear it, OK if I sit in a quiet room and use the headset I can hear it, but if walking outside no way. I purchased this, after 3 days trying to find a shop that stocked it, I was in another city, many many kilometres from my home city, so I cannot take it back to where I got it from. I have been trying to find if this is a fault with my mobile or a fault with this model. I contacted Samsung via internet, it took them almost a week to reply and they gave me a phone number and address to contact in UK... OK I am English, but I live in Egypt. they said they are unable to help and I have to contact this office in UK.

I will probably go to UK in december to see my family, but I have no idea if they will be able to help me when I get there. I do like the style of the phone, but you need a phone that you can hear when it rings. Many times I find a missed call because I haven't heard it. Another thing with this mobile, I do not think that the talk time is 8 hours, the battery indicator has 3 bars, mine goes down to 2 bars and then gives a very weak beep and shuts off the phone. Maybe I am just unlucky and the fault is with just this one mobile, but until I can get to UK to find out I am stuck with a phone I can't hear ringing and one that just shuts down on me during a call. I do like Samsung products, before this phone I had a brilliant D500, I really like that phone, but again the battery life was short. I had to charge it every night. has anyone else got a P300 and if so, do you have the same problems???
