Samay - when Time strikes..

.. is a Who-done-it mystery with some here and there Hitchcock touches in Hollywood style. Story revolves around three gruesome murders and a lady cop on hot pursuit of a serial killer. The psychopath however seems to be on her trail. With the help of definite clues and long efforts she finally confronts the culprit and .. ??? Dud! Samay falls flat on its face!

Samay - when Story dies..

.. halfway through. The story idea is fresh and indeed “different” but has been unnecessarily stretched. The pace of the movie in the beginning is very slick holding tremendous interest and the suspense built up is good too, yet the climax fails to keep up to the expectations. Even before halftime, you shall have easily deduced who the killer is.. Blame it on one too many Agatha Christie novels you have read.

Samay - what Audience likes..

.. are Sushmita Sen and Sushant Singh. For the first ever time, Sush baby impresses in an author backed serious role. She ably portrays the role of an ACP and emotes earnest expressions through her beautiful eyes. The biggest plus point of this movie is undoubtedly Sushmita, but Sushant comes up with an equally brilliant natural performance. An absolute delight of an actor, he carries his role of sidekick cop effortlessly with great style, controlled humour and perfect comic timings. Thankfully, both of them maintain a perfect professional relationship with no romantic involvements unlike in regular movies.. Phew! saved from those dreadful dreamy songs.

Samay - when Viewer cries..

.. in uncontained agony is when the fine execution of screenplay slackens midway with unwarranted long shots, repeat flashes, gratuitous emotional angle of Sushmita and her daughter and inapposite songs. Director Robby Grewal seem stuck at some shots repeating them again and again for no particular reasons. Neither is the over stretching of the story comprehensible.. It would have been the BEST thriller flick if contained to 90 minutes only.

Samay - when Boredom thrives..

.. no interest survives. I for one, still cant figure out what is the relation between minus 2 eyesight and being the best in your field; PacMan games and serial killers; McDonald’s and bespectacled photographs; calling from a dead phone line and claiming to have given clues; etc.. May be my ability to understand Bollywood sleuthing skills is at minus 2 too.

Samay - when Song pries..

.. at all wrong places and totally out of context, its highly irritating. All songs oddly spring up at times of peak suspense and dampen the already developed tension. The only hummable number is the item song “Laila Laila Laila”.. And the dancing babe is red H-O-T.

Samay - when Nothing surprises..

.. all curiosity dies. The script ought to have been more taut to sustain viewer interest or make them think harder. Definitely the climax could have been better and the killer is the biggest “Let Down” in the movie since you already have a hunch it would be so. I would have been gladder if the Director had proved me wrong by giving unexpected twists rather than long justifications of empathy for the slayer.. Sadly, this is where Samay falls short of all expectations.

Samay - when Director tries..

.. at something new, he better try harder. Nevertheless, its an overall good experimentation to deliver something fresh and distinct and anytime better than high glycerin family dramas.. Okay watching once with your favourite gang at your favourite hangout theatre.

Samay – now Time for..appreciation and brickbats. ;-)
