Safar which released in 1970 is one of the 17 hits that Rajesh Khanna starred in.From 1969 to 1973 Rajesh Khanna was biggest star of that Time. In 1970 Rajesh Khanna gave his best performance to date in Anand where Rajesh plays terminally ill patient who visits his friend to spend his last days in his hospital.

Safar starred Ashok Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila tagore and Feroz Khan in lead roles.Safar is story of Avinash(Rajesh Khanna) who is studying in medical college though he is more interested in painting.Neela(Sharmila Tagore) also studies with Avinash in same college.Avinash is fond of neela and he spends most of his time in Neela's house. Whereas Avinash himself is a painter And his house is full of her paintings.When Neela finds out about this she gets angry with Avinash first but later on tells becomes good friends with Him.

Neela belongs to lower middle class family and hence though

she wants to study further due to the financial condition of her family she takes tuition to earn extra money so that she can pay her college fees.In this way she meets Shekar(Feroz Khan) who is a rich stock broker.In their first meeting only Shekhar starts liking Neela but Neela already likes Avinash.Later on Shekhar meets Neela Brother Kalidas and tells him that he wants to marry neela.Kalidas tells him to meet Avinash as he is very close to Neela.

Later on Shekhar suffers huge losses in the business of stock market.Shekhar also goes into depression and commits suicide but that blames comes on Neela. Also he starts getting suspicious about avinash and neela. Neela is sent to Jail on charges of Shekhar murder. Later on, she is released from prison. At the end of the film, they have shown Neela has become a top Surgeon.
