I have heard many friends and cricket fans say that Sachin has immensely contributed to the sport of Cricket! Agreed 100% and I truly believe he has been one of the best by far in the new generation lot who have played for India.
However, I must also mention that the dignity of a player of his stature lies in the fact that he realises himself when he is not keeping up with the expectations he has built in the hearts of cricket fans. He needs to realise this and hell he should after the recent failures in the matches where our once -upon -a -time brilliant Sachin scored anything from 0-10 and was out of the field.
The public does not find this acceptable as this is not what we are expecting out of a brillaint performer like him. If he has health issues, resolve them, if he is unfit, get fit and if you still realise are not up to the mark then leave gracefully before you are outvoted by the same audiences who used to be glued to the TV once upon a time waiting for Sachin to play and give his best! Give new budding cricketers a chance to take place in the team and perform.
Also another issue with our cricketers these days is they are all engrossed in advertisements, endorsements and showroom openings! Forgive me for not remembering how many brands did Sunilji and Kapilji endorse while they were still playing for the country?
Some say don't the cricketers have the right to make money, hell they do who said no? But they have to remember its their primary responsibility to play for the country and play WELL! We know they are not super humans and we dont really expect them to win every single one of the matches but then loosing games in a row is just not acceptable!
Why don't the Cricket board make them all sign a contract which states that they are allowed to endorse ONLY one brand at a time, something that stops them from spending more time on sets than the practice ground!
Make all the non-performers (no matter how big a name they are) sit back and let them know that the country is not obliged to have them on their team or game and it will not if they keep failing the sport & country!
