All I can say to Mr. Bhansali is that it has been a brave attempt from him, to break away from the mould, to try something unique, something new, "hatke", taking a risk. But. It looks like it has been too much of a risk. Just way too out-of-the-box.

Saawariya is a simple love triangle between Raj(Ranbir), Sakina(Sonam) and Imaan(Sallu).

Hence, Ranbir loves Sonam, but Sonam loves Sallu, and Sallu loves Sonam is loved by Ranbir.

Also, there's Gulab Jee(?)(Rani), a pr*stitute who loves Ranbir.

Plot:(Is loved by Rani)Ranbir loves Sonam loves Sallu loves Sonam. Ranbir sacrifices his love for Sonam for Sallu. The end. What happened to Gulab Jee? We dont know. They didnt tell us either.

Ok. Are'nt we bored already of love triangles? Are'nt we bored already of saying that we are bored of love triangles?

So, the story falls flat then and there.

The script lacks a sheen without a story to fall on. Hence, the scope of the movie is greatly reduced.

Also, the setting of the movie is greatly confusing. We don't know the name of the place where this love story is taking place. We also have no clue about the time when it has happened.

Honestly, the whole mystery thing fails to impress. Then also, the movie reaches new heights of weirdness when we chance upon Monalisa curtains, walls painted with some Mughal queen's face and Hindu Gods! Suddenly, you stop trusting the logic behind everything. Seriously, whose brains(or the lack of it!) went into all this? Mr. Bhansali? Was that you? If it is, then, well, please just dont do it again. If it was something to do with art, then I am sorry to say, NO, it aint art.

Although it seems pretty sound technically, editing(Mr. Bhansali again!) is simply put, poor.

Songs just start off anywhere you least intended them to be. The film snipping job had to be more efficient. Cinematography is really nice. Background music blends well with the screenplay.

Peformances:

Ranbir: A good debut. With all honesty, he IS the saving grace of the film. He knows his stuff. Definitely actor material.

Sonam: Not bad at all. Looks pretty. Needs to work hard on her acting though.

Rani: She's her normal self, good. Nothing special to write home about.

Sallu: Hardly there, just normal though.

The Music: Outstandingly Fabulous. Its really good. Monty deserves applause.

Well, Saawariya is decent attempt to break the "Bollywood" mould. However, it must not be taken seriously. Because, its attempt fails. Not once, but many times. For example, the scene where Sallu and Sonam part from each other, made me laugh. Come on, Sonam, who behaves like that when somebody is leaving? Also, all that Sonam and Ranbir do, half the time, is run around the set.

It looks really amateurish at times. We hope for something more logical from the Bhansali camp next time.

So, watch Saawariya. Also, forget Saawariya.
