Hello hai, I'm new around here, (less than a month) and ur rrc-ing encourages me so read!(till the end!!!)

Saathiya

The movie was released in Dec 2002 most probably. So its been over a year since then. And most of you must have watched it, read about it and written about it countless times. But because I watched it only recently in December, I wanted to write about it.

The story is really cute. (I don't think anyone else has used that adjective for the story of a movie..but blame it on my 16 yr old vocab) Its not amazing award winning stuff, but the movie is nice.

Its about two people falling in love, despite all the usual problems like economic inequalities (in simple words: rich boy poor girl hehe) , academic pressures (The girl's a med student :) , talk about pressure!), and the parental opposition (See? I do have a vocab after all.) And they get married AND what happens after that! It isnt original, at all. But its got a kind of 'fresh' feel to it.

The story starts with Aditya Sehgal (vivek oberoi) driving his bike down a Mumbai road with headphones on and a grin that would give Mickey and Donald a run for their money. Its rush hour, he's in the middle of a crowded road , he's listening to 'o humdum suniyo re' and oscillating his head like a cuckoo clock(not like pendulum clocks , they are extinct, I think). All the while being completely oblivious to the oncoming traffic!! Honestly,I was half expecting him to crash into a truck rather than the girl doing so!!

He comes across some accident site on the road, and takes a different route to wherever he's headed. Later in the day, he finds out that his wife Suhani(Rani Mukherjee) is missing. And starts searching for her. And while searching, he reminisces about (grammar?) when he met suhani for the first time. (No wonder he couldn't find her, his attention was

somewhere else naa!)

He had met her at a wedding, where suhani and her sister dina (sandhya mridul) were present too, and were singing a song 'chhalka' (Rani singing a melodious song - a bit difficult to digest!)

He (kinda obviously) falls for her, and its love at first sight, atleast for him. (Hindi movie-itis!!! Why does it ALWAYS have to be love at first sight?)

But she doesn't put grass for him .

(Arre yaar, ghaas nahi dalti! Can't understand plain English?! Shame on you! ;)

The next sighting takes place on a local train. Suhani on one. Adi on another. Now what I don't get here is that why would a rich boy like Adi travel by a local train? Just to spot suhani? But he doesnt even know she's on it.....okay! My mistake! I shud've never tried to look for logic in a bollywood movie....

So after the usual pataaoing, she becomes his friend. Chalo...girlfriend. (This pataaoing part was what I found really cute. Adi was being really decent through all this, and thats what made his character more likeable. If only there were more people like him in real life, my life!) hehe j/k

So..they decide to get married, and adi's parents come over to meet suhani's. But Adi's dad(satish shah) being as bigmouthed as Harriet from Small Wonder, kind of insults Suhani's parents for being from the middle class. They are enraged, the marriage is already off. Now, Suhani starts avoiding her own love 4 adi and starts avoiding him too. They kind of break up.(I suddenly have an urge to have a KitKat,somebody get me a kitkat!!!)

Suhani goes away somewhere for 3 weeks, Adi realises (in typical filmi way) that he can't live without her and finds out where she is, and meets her. So now they're back together and decide to get married secretly in a temple. I have to admit, rani and vivek look very cute together. Till the point of their marriage in the movie, everything seems so dreamlike...!!!hmmm soo cute! (ya ya u guessed it, I am, like, a typical, like, a 16 yr old , like, a crazy teen! Like..ya ok...I kinda like vivek oberoi...hehe(like in the sense like, not like like) DO NOT BE CONFUSED!!)

So...back to the story...suhani spills to her parents that she got married, due to circumstances which I dont want to write bcoz i'm lazy.

so....they are kicked out of their parents homes, (bend it like beckham) and they start living on their own at a place which looks...well...pretty ugly.(Wow! oxymoron!) But they have fun the next coupla days, but then thats the end of the cute story, what follows are uncute arguments.... Grr..Adi changed!!! grr! ok..so Suhani changed too! Both became quite unromantic (I hope thats not what happens in real life) and basically they were mouthing dialogues like

(Beware, my hindi-2-english translation skills are being put to use!)

Now I'll have to explode my head with you for the rest of my life! ( hmm-Ab tumhare saath hee baaki zindagi sar phodna padega!)

The flashback (going on all this while) reaches the day when Adi is riding his bike. (remember? with the mickey mousey grin pasted on his face?) And the audience comes to know that the accident site was actually where Suhani had met with an accident. (Hit by a safari?) Adi finally traces her to a hospital She's lying in the ICU. And SRK and tabu r there, coz Tabu was driving the safari.

The acting performance of Vivek oberoi is quite good at this point, holding his own in front of SRK, who in turn can be easily forgotten for this role, no great acting by him here, strictly ok.

(BUT I LOVE SRK,)(ok, I know wat ur saying, ''control ananya control'', so I will)

hmmph, finally Suhani is ok, wakes up from coma (?) and utters the three most repeated words from any bollywood movie, can u guess? Obviously you can! ''I love you!''

But the movie is still cute!!!

Rani and Vivek looked awesome together. There were no unneccessary glitzy dizwear , rani loked like a real middle class gal. The performances, acting wise, were great. Vivek accomplished what he was required to do throughout the movie, look cute!

Even the other actors in the movie didnt go overboard. Direction was good. The songs (ALL OF THEM) are great!! I love all of them. Know each and every word of each song by heart! Aye...udi udi udi...(Don't have to curse your fate, I am thankfully blessed with a voice better than rani mukerjee)

The movie feels amazingly fresh considering that the subject is not original. If you still havent watched it, GO WATCH IT NOW!!!!!

Oh no no, wait, dont watch it now, 'now' is the time to rate and comment on my review. ~~I~am~waiting~~...

p.s. Few things I want to add:

1.Read my revu on LOC

2.Wait for my review on Ek Hasina Thi

  1. SOMEONE take me to watch Ek Hasina Thi! (chalo chhodo, I can't go anyway, its @ as in capital A with a circle AND it'll be on cable any day now!)
