WHAT AM I SEEING?

Species was compared to Alien and Predator being another sci-fi movie. But what does this one have to match the other two? May be, Natasha Henstridge - the main attraction of both Species movies.

I will not compare this one to Predator, it was a classic and this one is a vague attempt - even if not the worst you will see. The movie tries to cover two factors, sex and violence, but fails to do even that well enough. And when making a horror movie, make sure that you can scare the viewers.....especially when I am not in a good mood.....I don't want to break my DVD player, that is why.

WHATS IN THIS MOVIE?

I saw this movie two times. When I saw it for the first time, I saw it in the Video CD and I had not been a bit interested in it and I stopped it in the middle. I saw it for the second time last year in DVD and it was good, but not any way near the first species. The DVD was a collection of the two Species, but the first one had everything more than the second one.

Actually, the second one seemed to be based on the first one so that you need to see the first one to enjoy the second one to the full and there may be even chances of problems in understanding too.

This one is another sci-fi thriller, but with more sex and nudity than the usual ones - you will know it from the advertisements and trailers itself and may be even from the description of the movie given on the CD cover.

IT IS ALL ABOUT MATING

As the first alien was killed in the very first species, here Natasha Henstridge returns as Eve, a clone of the alien species, developed using the alien DNS, she is imprisoned in a glass chamber and is subjected to various experiments so that the human kind could know how to defeat the aliens if they do attack again - they are trying almost everything on her to find a solution. But this clone got more attachment to the humans.

Patrick Ross (Justin Lazard) is the first man to walk on Mars and the son of a senator (James Cromwell). He gets infected by the alien species and thus whenever he has sex with women they immediately give birth to an alien offspring and die at spot. He seems to be starving for sex. Her ultimate aim is to find Eve and mate with her. If the humans can't stop it, it is going to be a big blow for them.

Will they be able to stop the alien mating and reproduction? What plans will Patrick have in his mind? How will Eve react to the presence of Patrick? Where will these alien thing end? When will these guys make a better movie than this? Is this the best movie they can make? If it is so, I am disappointed. This is not all a product of efficiency, I am damn sure about that.

THIS IS MORE CREEPY

Natasha Henstridge who was the alien itching for mating in the first Species is not that much a villain in this one. Just like in the first movie, she still have that allergy to clothes which may be the factor leading to her being nude on occasions. I never knew that throwing away clothes was this much easy especially in front of the camera. Her looks have so much changed from the first one - she did look gorgeous in the first one.

Atleast she suits the role of the alien better than any one else. She doesn't look as much beautiful as in the first one, but this time, she has really got more resemblence with the alien character she is playing. Atleast she is on of their kind - the aliens are supposed to be naked, aren't they? Even if they are not, she is! Even the aliens may be wondering.

Justin Lazard as the major villain looks good especially with those alien-like looks on his face. He shows exactly how it feels to have an alien inside you especially a species with a high endency to find people of opposite sex and mate.

The one problem is that he got a helpless, charming and cruel look on his face at almost the same time - what is that supposed to mean? Is he a cruel, charming, helpless alien ready to dive? Anyways, he is only a creepy alien from outer space.

Others too were not bad. With the showing of occasional nudity at times, the movie goes on, so does the characters. Some characters seemed to be made only remove clothes, have sex, to give birth to the alien offspring and die on spot.

Is there a maximum or minimum number of persons that has to be killed by the alien? Why can't these freaks mate with some of their kind instead of decreasing the human population? We have wars and accidents to reduce population, we don't need a creepy alien to lessen our numbers. Do we?

USE THE BRAINS

The end of the movie gives us the clear image that there is a huge scope for Species 3. It seems to be a never ending phenomenon. I know that they will never leave those poor aliens alone - making them villains in most of the sci-fi horror movies. The movie is all based on mating and rproduction which highly ensures that it is not all suitable for small kids.

But still it got the image of a sci-fi thriller which gives any sci-fi lover an attraction towards it - a strong one and I have to agree that the movie has some amount of horror in it as well as some action. But still not at all near the first species which was much more a thriller. The movie could have been better if these guys have put on some more effort into it, especially some more brains even while those skin shows- anyways, it is better than nothing.
