Said Ruskin Bond: When I was yet a boy, I dreamt of Power and fame,

And now when I’m old, I dream of being a boy again.

Lush green valley, pure pools and rivers, snow caped peaks, thick forests…that’s what a typical Ruskin Bond book has got. Ruskin Bond books are refreshing desi stories with mountains of beautiful adjectives that one is sure to enjoy. They soon end up becoming one of your favorites.

RUSTY AND THE LEOPARD

The story Rusty and the leopard includes modified versions of the two most famous Rusty novels- ‘The room on the roof’ and ‘Vagrants in the Valley’.

The third book of Ruskin Bonds famous Rusty series starts with Rusty getting a job as a tutor in the Kapoor family after he has run away from his guardian’s house. The Kapoors (Mr Kapoor- the drunkard, Mrs. Kapoor- the breathtakingly beautiful woman, and their gay and cheerful son Kishen) are very easy to get along with; and Rusty has a good time staying at the room on the roof. Rusty and Kishen soon become good friends and their relationship deepens as time passes by.

Meanwhile, Rusty stumbles into love with Meena. Meena’s brown laughing eyes and eye catching beauty captures Rusty and there is a slight romance between the two.

All is well until on one horrible day Meera Kapoor leaves the world forever. Her unexpected death is heart breaking and soon Rusty is alone in the world. No one, not even Kishen is there to help him at one stage. The world seems uninteresting to Rusty. He wants to do something in life….something great…like becoming a writer as writing poetry and stuff were his only skills. But he feels he can’t do much in India, he wants to go back to England-his Mother land.

Said master Rusty, “I want to be either somebody or nobody, I don’t want to be just anybody.”

So Rusty decides to leave India, and go to England to make his dreams of becoming a writer come true.

At this point, Newfriends take the place of the dear old Ranbir and Somi, who leave the place for higher education.. Sudheer the Lafunga, dumb Goonga and Devinder make his uninteresting life a little more lively.

friends take the place of the dear old Ranbir and Somi, who leave the place for higher education.. Sudheer the Lafunga, dumb Goonga and Devinder make his uninteresting life a little more lively. His friends don’t want him to leave Dehra Dun, But Anyhow, Rusty is firm in his decision. Rusty feels that nobody can stop him from turning his dreams into reality.

THE GREAT AUTHOR

Ruskin Bond was brought up in India. He left the country as a young man and spent a few years in London. He returned to India in 1995, and since then, he has never left the country; probably because of his love for it.

He has received a few awards like the Sahitya Akademi Award, the Padmashri Award, etc.for his works.

He and his books deserve the immense popularity they have got.

WHAT I LIKE THE BEST ABOUT THE BOOK

I love the cover picture of the book, which has got a gorgeous leopard sitting on a multi colored rock; with its ferocious orange eyes and long beautiful tail.

Rusty’s adventures in the Garhwal hills and in Doon valley are very interesting, and pre teens will surely enjoy this book.
