Touted as a sequel of sorts to DCH, or atleast that brand of movie, Rock On lives up to the predecessor. What makes this movie great is that it is not cheesy in the typical bollywood way. So it feels like real people out there living real lives, and finding it within themselves to live their dreams.

The acting is just fine in the context of the movie. You'd feel that the rock-star antics of the group is somewhat mellow if you have ever been to an Iron Maiden Concert, but then its not as if all rock groups render a physically energetic performance. So that's all right as well. Nothing about the movie, except perhaps the soundtrack, is mind numbingly great. But since everything is just right, it makes the movie quite a treat to watch.

The story traces the life of four friends who are a part of a college band, their togetherness, their falling off and their reunion. Some how, the friendship of the four guy's here did not feel as intimate as the DCH trio, the only real negative in the movie for me. But maybe thats because the aim was to keep the movie on the shorter side.

After the group splits up, everyone goes their own way, dealing with life as they know best. In the process they all leave their dreams unfulfilled. And through the efforts of the pretty and the sensitive wife, who discovers her husbands past and rightfully concludes that his detachedness with his current life stems from a stemming of his creative juices, and therefore reunites the band. (THe band is named, quite unimaginitively, Magic) The problem is that these are no longer the carefree college kids. So there is a very real class diference between a rich investment banker and a free lancing musician which could well turn out to be the bane of Magic in it's second round. The movie glides along these issues in a realistic way, without getting too dramatic in the Saas-Bahu soaps kind of a way. It keeps you engaged. And for a change the music actually is an integral part of the movie.

Lastly, the movie gives the message of living your dream. So if an investment banker can find the time to practice and perform live, probably anyone can do what they are passionate about. So stop reading reviews and go live your dreams! I am stopping right now!
