Jaago sung by Farhan Akhtar and Siddharth Mahadevan is about living life your own way and gunning for your rights. Guitar work by Sheldon D’Silva and drums by Jai Row Kavi give the song the necessary boost. Farhan sings it with the verve it deserves and Sidharth’s infusion and his impassioned rendering of the hookline is the icing on the cake. Shraddha Kapoor can easily make an alternate career out of playback singing. She’s excellent in Udja re, taking to its rock format like fish to water and doing full justice to it. You can’t help but listen to it on the loop just for her spirited rendering. The guitar work stands out in You know what I mean, sung in his characteristic voice which suits the structure of the song. Manzar naya, sung by Farhan has a folk melody and has some interesting guitar riffs throughout that work in its favour. It has some nice flute portions too which adds to its overall treatment. Shraddha continues to mesmerise us in Tere mere dil, which is more pop than rock and has a soothing feel to it. Woh jahaan is easily the best song of the album in terms of sheer orchestration. The rock anthem feel gets surprise addition in Sarod ( by Soumik Dutta) accompaniment midway. You want to listen to it just for the sheer brilliance of its composition and sound production. Then comes the most hatke song of the album. Hoi Kiw/Chalo Chalo carries a North Eastern flavour and has Khasi lyrics by Kit Shangpliang, besides the Hindi ones by Javed Saab. Usha Uthup has sung it in conjunction with Kit Shangpliang & Pynsuklin Syiemiong. The composition is a layering of khasi and Hindi vocals with a folk melody reworked as a rock anthem. Full marks to S-E-L for pushing the envelope and succeeding. Ishq mastana, sung by Shankar Mahadevan and Digvijay Singh Pariyar too is high on melody. It’s Sufisque flavour, and use of Dhol, Dholaks, tabla in conjunction with guitar work makes it an interesting composition.
