Mel C's new album,'Reason' wouldn't even come close to my definition of a bad album.On the contrary, I think its one of her finest compilations ever.This Liverpool born 28-yr old singer has done it again,a greater album to follow a great debut album.I had my share of apprehensions initially,but they were all wiped out by the release of the album on 3 March 2003.What an album!This is how it goes.
THE ALBUM
SIDE A
1.Here it comes again:Mel C expresses her boundless love for her lover,assuring him that he's the only one she's ever loved and wouldn't even dream of letting go. A very nice and unique song in the sense,it starts as a pop song and builds up into a rocky one.Thats innovation and creativity redefined by Mel C.
2.Reason:A classic single,in many ways similar to Robbie Williams's 'Feel' in theme.Here, a confused Mel C expresses her desire to be with her lover but has to leave him for some instinctive 'reason' which she cant comprehend at the moment but hopes she would in the future.
3.Lose Myself in you:Mel,driven by her conscience's prodding is forced to make up with her lover,to let bygones be bygones and look ahead to a better future. A slow and steady song with portrayed situations which can be realised practically in real life.
4.On the Horizon:All Mel sees is love on the horizon of the relationship she has with her loved one,and she expresses it so beautifully. A very jolly sort of theme with an encouraging touch to it.
5.Positively Somewhere:My favourite!Mel says she doesn't give 2 hoots about her past,what matters is the present and deep inside she's the person she wants to be...... A fast mood brightening song.''Here inside of me.....I'm who I wanna be.......It's a beautiful daayyy.....''
6.Melt:a touching song where Mel C,encourages us to have faith in everyone,in self and make everyone's heart melt with affection.
SIDE B
1.Do I:A very sentimental song in which Mel C,confesses her love to her love,asking him if he felt the same about her. Very sweet song with beautiful lyrics,very original.
2.Soul Boy:Slowest song on the album,a love ballad of sorts mixed with some creative stuff,in which Mel C tells her love that she wouldn't want anyone else as her soulmate.
3.Water:A wonderfully melodious song which keeps you guessing,where she correlates all aspects of her life with the boundless ocean and expresses her desire to be able to walk across the waters.And she does it in a very colourful and uncommon manner.Steady song,great lyrics too!
4.Home:Frustrated with life,Mel has run away from home,but now realises it to be the wrong choice and wants to go back home,but a part of her just won't let her. An interesting song,call it pop or rock with alot of twists and turns in theme.
5.Lets Love:Nothing wrong about the song at all,typical Mel C,the real rocky stuff where she tells the world everyone needs love in one form or the other,so why deny it.''Lets loveeee... and love.....''.Has got a very upbeat tone.
6.Yeh! Yeh! Yeh!:The message from Mel is loud and clear,she is on a mission- to enjoy life to the fullest-because life is too short for worries and grudges.those who agree may join her to freak and lose control.Fast and loud stuff! ''Yeh!Yeh!Yeh!.......we're gonna have agood time!''
ATTRIBUTES OF THE SINGER
1.Mel C is very versatile can just about pull anything off.
2.She's got numerous versions of her voice,all equally effective,very unique.
3.Awesome breath control
4.Has a very good sense of voice accomodation to the theme of a given song.
5.The most talented of the Spice Girls,she brings out the emotions in the song with extreme precision.
WHY HASN'T THE ALBUM DONE AS WELL AS IT SHOULD HAVE:
Well,its mostly got to do with the fact that she has been a bit too creative on her new album,where she has tried a lot of new things,and with success w.r.t execution.however,the fact it isn't very catchy is probably why it only managed a #14 in the Uk Charts with ''Here it Comes Again'' managing a #7.But,''YEH!YEH!YEH!'' is out due soon,more of the conventional Mel C,which may well turn the tables.Lets wait and see!
