134th . Review on Rang De Basanti

A 133 reviews - amazing. As I was late in watching the film so here I am late in writing my review on it as well.

Better late than never is the motto for today and especially for a film like this. Wouldn't you agree?

Rang De Basanti promos had it all. A young and energetic star cast. Not to forget the article in one of the daily newspapers which read how can Aamir Khan play a college student?

And there we had the director Raykesh Mehra's statement saying that Aamir had not only lost a few pounds but was physically doing his best to look like an under-30 year old. If that wasn't justified, the script let him be a passout from college five years hence. Thus giving him another five years leeway.

Can you imagine how would Arjun Rampal look in the role of Siddharth? He was the original choice for the film and couldn't do the film because his dates weren't matching Aamir's. Can you imagine what this film could have done to his career? There might not be another Rang De Basanti for Arjun but there will surely be success.

Back to the film one could hear only great praises from the day it released. The curiosity to watch the film was beyond control and finally when time permitted, there I was.

To be honest, the film kind of started slow and one was desperately waiting for the gang to come into play and when they did it was fun for a while. And then the film went to another level altogether.

This hip hop generation playing characters from the past wasn't exactly a blast.

Until the comparison came to the foreground and the parallel drawn between the two generations was apparent and for a definite purpose.

I remember whispering to my friend I did not want to see another Bhagat Singh. Hell, not that I don't love my country as much as the next person, but I had seen two of the Bhagat Singh films on the big screen and yet another one on the small screen.

Once the interval happened the film went on another level altogether. As a viewer one was completely lost in what was transcending on the silver screen.

Must credit the director for choosing newcomers with no set image as such which in turn helped the audience to look upon them as the characters they were enacting. And also what was beautiful about the story was that there were no heroes - they were all just characters.

One wouldn't walk out saying that oh Aamir Khan was so cool or Kunal was so sexy or Siddharth really rocked - more than an actor it was the film that completely shook you up.

Would we as part of the nation that is living in such a farce of corruption take to such drastic measures? Can a film really motivate you to react like that? May be not. Or may be it will.
