There are few movies that are able convey a strong message to the audience and also keep them entertained throughout. In the Recent past Madhur Bhandarkar was able to achieve this in Page3. With Rang de basanti Rakesh Mehra is able to do the same…

Rang de basanti goes on for full 3 hrs with not even a single moment where it looses its pace… No scene that u would like to miss

The movie begins with the British filmmaker Sue (Alice Patten) coming to India to make a film on the revolutionaries of Indian independence movement, namely Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru et al.

In Delhi, aided by Sonia (Soha Ali Khan), she meets students/passouts at Delhi university campus - DJ (Aamir Khan), Karan (Siddharth), Sukhi (Sharman Joshi), Aslam (Kunal Kapoor) she hopes to go ahead with this movie. Laxman Pandey (Atul Kulkarni) is the guy who is a member of a shiv-sena kind of a party who create trouble for the people and imposing Indian culture on them. However after series of interactions Laxman also act in Sue’s documentary. Madhavan, is also part of this movie as Sonia's (Soha Ali) IAF pilot fiancé.

But, contrary to Sue's expectations, the youth of India have no feelings for their country. They even poke fun at Sue's attempts to make a film. As they play the historical characters, their perspective about the present, and their own role in it, changes forever. Which, in a nutshell, is what the movie is about.

After intermission the plot takes a sharp turn when Madhavan looses his life in a Mig-21 crash…. Although I am tempted to go ahead with narrating the plot but then I’ll be spoiling ur fun of watching the movie :)

While shooting for the documentary the characters were acting in it for just fun! But after the mig-21 crash all the characters go through a lot of introspection and start relating with their real lives… This may sound a bit serious movie but it is not… After every few scenes there is some banter of Aamir khan and his friends (just like they did masti in Dil chata hai). Infact 2-3 dialoges are borrowed from Dil chata hai like, “Yahaan koi mar gaya kya!”

There's also Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Waheeda Rehman, doing little more than cameo roles, true, but who leave their mark.

With Rang de basanti, AR Rehman has made a strong comeback…. Excellent work on 2-3 tracks. Although at few places you can catch the similarity with yuva’s ‘Fanaa’ track. Its Music CD would really be worth buying…

Personally, Soha Ali Khan's performance was a pleasant surprise in this movie. Courtesy Soha: this movie went thru censor board smoothly (her mother Sharmila Tagore is the censor head)

But ultimately, despite sharing the screen space with others, this is an Aamir Khan film. And the actor, playing a character 15 years younger, lives the role, conveying the right amount of mischief..

In the end I can just say that there were 4-5 moments when the audience clapped at specific scenes of the movie…

Value for money guranteed!
