Huh! After several years I got enough kick to pen down a review. And what else it can be, an aamir flick. The reason behind my considering it to be an aamir flick is that more or less I go out to watch a movie because of aamir khan. Its almost 6 - 7 years and aamir hasn't disappointed me for this reason, I do get a value for money. Coming back to the reviewing part:
Story Line
Indeed impressive. Truly innovative. These are the two short sentences I would like to conclude for the story line. Sue, a Britisher, who is working for the BBC plans to make a documentary on the revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and others, brings her down to India. Here she meets Sonia's friends. And the story ends up with the MIG - 21 plane controversies. The story is neatly woven which is mainly flawless.
Dialogues
Pretty hilarious. Many times I found myself on the stairs next to my seat; the dialogues had lot of neat comic touch. The dialogues had enough punch to keep you refreshing through-out the movie.
Acting
Aamir Khan as DJ This is the guy who is always upto mark, far ahead of his peers. As I have early stated I mainly go out to watch the movie because of Aamir Khan. Its since Rangeela that this actor hasn’t proved me wrong. Acting at par excellence. Yeah! In the movie at some occasions, he looks stretched but overall very good acting.
Sharman Joshi as Sukhi He took me by surprised, at few shots he has over-shadowed aamir. Indeed! Good performance.
Alice Patton as Sue Good acting, especially when DJ was openly flirting with her.
Soha Ali Khan as Sonia Acting came naturally. Is it because she comes from a family of actors? Maybe!
Rest, Atul Kulkarni as Laxman Pandey, Siddharth as Karan, Kunal Kapoor as Aslam, Kiran Kher as DJ’s mother and others, all were good with their roles.
On a scale of 10, I would give a score of eight to eight and a half.
Direction
Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has really done a good job. He has made a much better movie than his previous movie AKS. If the movie is refreshing then its because of his direction. Nice tuning with cinematography.
Music
Now what to say about the music director A R Rehman?! He is used to give some solid music and same is the case with the title song. When compared with Mangal Pandey, the music is much better, but still not of the Rehman’s own strata. On a scale of 10, I would give a score of seven to seven and a half.
My Take
At last but not least, my take. The movie in second half loses the grip over the story line, it becomes vague by some bits. Director has surely made a refreshing and a thought provoking movie.
