story if there is any ..........

We have no clue where to start. Let's try this: Why did they decide to make a film like 'Rakht'? To begin with, there are too may sub-twists in the tale. 'Rakht' is the story of Drishti (Bipasha Basu), a tarot card reader, who tells the future. She has been windowed at an early age, but has an eight-year-old son. Rahul (Sanjay Dutt) is the principal at the school where Drishti's son studies.Rahul is engaged to Natasha (Amrita Arora), the daughter of the town mayor (Sharat Saxena). One day, Natasha disappears mysteriously; no one can find any clues about her whereabouts. Both the mayor and Rahul approach Drishti for help in tracing Natasha. The first suspect is Sunny (Dino Morea), a violent man, who is rough with his wife, Rhea (Neha Dhupia). Time and again Rhea asks for Drishti's help to overcome problems in her stormy marriage with her husband. This puts Sunny dead against his wife's friendship with Drishti, whom he calls a witch. And then there's Mohit (Suniel Shetty), an eccentric car mechanic, who has a soft corner for Drishti. She tries to help him.

A twist in the story comes when Natasha's dead body is found in a lake on property which belongs to Sunny. He is arrested, found guilty of committing the murder and sentenced to imprisonment. But the real culprit is someone

else.

The Director

We had great regard for Mahesh Manjrekar as a director. After all, he made such sensitive films like 'Vaastav' and 'Astitva'. But we wonder where all his brilliance has gone. 'Rakht' shows not even a glimmer of it. His direction seems confusing and dull, right from the start. He not only fails to carry forward his once-great artistic vision, but also ends up producing a shoddy supernatural thriller, which has neither soul nor plot to call it either 'supernatural' or 'thrilling'. Perhaps the powers that should have been sabotage his most ambitious plans!

The Actors

Bipasha Basu

Though hampered by a half-baked role, she rises above it and delivers. For the first time she sheds her tag of 'sex symbol' and delivers a fine performance. Besides playing the central character with great aplomb, she turns out to be the surprise package of the film.

Sanjay Dutt

We have no clue why Sanju decided to do this role. He seems to sleeping throughout the movie.

Suniel Shetty

Though he makes a sincere attempt to play the role of an eccentric mechanic, we wonder why he keeps shaking his head violently. And we also wonder how a mechanic who keeps shaking his head can ever repair any car! Well, maybe Suniel can answer this.

Dino Morea

Dino, too, makes a serious attempt to make his role convincing. He does succeed to a great extent.

Amrita Arora

Can someone please ask Ms Arora what made her gyrate seductively in front of her screen father and fiance with other men present as well? Besides that sexy number and couple of steaming scenes, she has nothing much to do in the movie.

Neha Dhupia

She doesn't get much scope to show off her talent, except as the battered wife.
