Customade car with assembly line ordinariness.. Review on Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

There was a time when when yashraj was a bit like rolls royce, they made products that were made with the finest material available and set the benchmarks. A few products may not be exactly attractive (like say pink rollsroyces) but they never the less got everyone's attention. There was a time when yashraj meant a magnum opus with loads of stars and larger that life entertaintment, nothing was ordinary the best locales the biggest stars, the best music directors. Today its like the aston martin of a few years ago, looks great from the outside but inside you have plastic ford parts. They're churning out movies with a speed that hollywood studios cant match. If quality doesn't suffer anyone would be surprised. Hardly any thought could have gone into this movie.

This has at least 2 things that will boggle even the minds of those who like govinda films. When you watch it in the context of this being an ordinary mans story it seems even more irritating. The songs are ordinary enough that only 2 need to promoted. The hangover of previous yashraj films has continued from bachna onto this one, and on top of that there hangover from shahrukh khan films too, thats one too many hangovers for me. The story is as predictable as can get, especially after the interval since you already know what going to happen its more a case of waiting for the movie to end. Still the biggest flaw of the movie is that it fails to connect with anyone nor the fans of srk or yashraj, nor the critics nor the ordinary cinemagoer for many reasons. Like any car you've bought and regret later there are always the things that attracted you in the first place. Srk does a very good job but thanks to a weak script and constant multiple hangovers he is unable to pull of this film based on his own might.

Anushka sharma fits the part to the hilt and looks too cute for words, she will give butterflies in the stomach to any man with girl next door looks, combined with a model figure. The chemistry between the two is also quite nice however without a good script even the most potent chemical mixture will not react to strongly. Which makes it all the more surprising why this movie fails. The movie is about 2 people, only vinay has a role worth mentioning and he does a very good job. The sets were good but that where the problem may lie they felt like sets instead of the real thing. Technically the movie was sound with some good picturisation especially in the songs.

On the whole its a movie that fails to connect for reasons that you cannot put a finger on because the most of the points are contradicting in nature (good acting good chemistry week result???), the only real criminal can be the script then. Watch with caution as it can even disappoint the hardcore shah rukh fans. -s script, set like feel, script, unbelievable premise in the story. +/-s set feeling, songs???

Total 5/10 (if i factor in the loss of expectations this will be lower).
