This is one the lakes I visited when I visited Ooty in 2012. And this is probably the Best Lake in The ooty.
Located at about 17 Kms westbound of ooty(23 kms for Ooty Centre) and it takes about 45 min non stop drive from Ooty to reach here. But to visit this lake you have got to cross many other Visit spots like Pine Forest, 9th mile, 6th mile and Kamaraj Sagar Dam. This lake is at best location, and located a little away from SH67 and the lake has both slow and fast motor boating.
This lake is the cleanest one because it located far away from the ooty town. A naturally maintained Lake.
Pros -
1) Lake is pretty clean with clear cool water. Not the the Kamaraj Sagar Dam/lake and Ooty Lake.
2) Best for boating experience including both Slow and Fast boating. One can also opt for long distance Boating because the lake is pretty bigger than other lakes on the hill. Unfortunately we did no do boating because my mom fears of it.:(
3) Located at Best Location since its away from the State highway and Seating available for Tourist to sit and watch the boating.
4) Large place for Vehicle Parking.
5) A Garden and small park available for children playing and relaxation.
6) Best place for Relaxed Photography. May that on the lake or Off.
7) Rest room/toilets available and is much cleaner. Cons -
Well there are no big Cons I noticed but these are the things I would say -
1) The lake boating point is located almost 4 to 5 stories down the lake from the car parking/entrance. This will make difficult for aged people with knee problems to opt out for boating.
2) Probably only one or two eateries shops available at this place, basically for buying Water bottles and Chips. So no Restaurants here. Hence, make sure you visit here not during lunch time.
Road Tip -
This Lake is located little off the main State Highway. hence it little difficult to spot road direction to reach here. Hence it is recommended to use Google maps(offline) to reach here. Or alteast carry a Direction note with you.
Sister places -
1) Pykara Dam - This Dam is always kept closed from visitors. Not even Photography allowed at this dam. The Dam is located right before you enter for the lake.
2) Pykara Fall - This come before the Dam and is another best place to visit. Best suited for young people who love Trekking. But we Skipped this Fall because visitors said there that "There is no water at the falls". Hence Visit this Fall only when there is water there.
Verdict - Visit this lake if u want to see clean water, pure air and best boating experience. Highly Recommended lake and must visit at Ooty.
