PEC is a renowned college not only in India but worldwide and I wud rank it in the category of engg colleges that come next to the IITs in India. But the whole rapport that Iam talking of is just based on the Bachelors level of education. I dont think any institute in India except IITs n IISc are good enough to go for Master level or higher studies in engineering.
There are several benefit to go for Bachelor courses at PEC:
Awesome placement, even when the job market and industry in general was laid down PEC graduates didn't had much problem getting campus placements.
Provides excellent prospects for higher studies in US. Since huge bunch of alumni are at good faculty positions and rapport created by the students in several highly rated schools in US so it makes easier for the GRE aspirants to get into the good schools in US.
Campus in the ''City Beautiful'' Chandigarh is an awesome city to live in, one of the most clean, organized and beautiful city of India so it makes the campus life of any student a wonderful and memorable experience.
Great Exposure. Being an alumni of PEC, Aero deptt I can claim that one gets ample opportunities for getting extremely useful exposure in various fields both technical and non-technical. I know that all of students on our class had the summer tranings at the most prestigious organizations in India, like DRDO labs, HAL (hindustan aeronautics ltd.) n NAL (national aeronautics labs), DGCA labs(directorate general of civil aviation) and everyone had a flight traning shop at IIT-K. There are several clubs n non-technical activities on the campus also and I know that lot of students excelled in non-technical activities.
Though I wudn't rank PEC anywhere even close to the IITs, but definitely it's one of the best among the engg colleges other than IITs. If anyone suggests to join PEC inspite of getting admission in any of the IITs, than I wud just dump that suggestion as a crap and if anyone thinks himself or herself capable of getting through IIT JEE, than I'd say that even spending an extra year preparing for JEE is worth more than anything else.
Last but not the least I take great honor in mentioning that the list of distinguished alumni from PEC is never ending which includes the greats of the calibre of Late Kalpana Chawla.
Apart from showering all the praises for PEC, I'd like to point out one drawback that I felt during my stay in the college. The faculty is a bit laid back and not so dynamic... the student has to take self initiative to accomplish anything that he or she wants. It is very obvious since all of the staff n faculty are govt employee, so that nature in the faculty n staff has been inculcated over a period of time just like the employees in any other govt sector.
