Gave me cystic acne!. Review on Proactive Solution

I had tried proactiv in the past for adolescent acne. Although it did not sensitize or dry out my face, it also did not produce any results in the appearance of my skin. By the end of the third month of using this product, I stopped the regimen and was left with the same amount of moderate acne on my face as the day I had started. Thankfully my adolescent acne ran its course and after high school my face became crystal clear for a good 4 years. After that, I noticed my skin starting to break out again and more often with each passing year. I was in dismay after my dermatologist told me I was now suffering from adult acne. I figured I would give Proactiv another chance since it did not necessarily harm my skin the first time around. I thought that even though it did nothing to clear up my adolescent acne, perhaps it would do something for my adult acne. I was wrong.

After a month and a half of starting the Proactiv regimen, I began developing excessive oily skin and started to break out even more at a rapid rate. The Proactiv company claims to some that this is the "purging" stage, when all the impurities in your skin are brought to the surface to be discarded. I believed this so-called "theory" and continued with using the product. Within a few weeks I had developed large, hard, painful cysts under my skin. Terrified to continue this product any further, I stopped the regimen and cancelled my membership. Eventually my acne started to subside and my skin went back to its usual self with mild breakouts. However, the cysts did not go away. I had to get them lanced out and I now have facial scarring from where the cysts were due to tissue damage from them.
