Party is a party is a party, ah now that does sound like repetitive, don’t it, but so what, after all that’s what it is, aren’t it? Official party now that’s some concept, get together have a nice time and the best deal is, its all on the house and funded all so generously by the company in the name of some brand building exercise or some lousy achievements to extol and regale over.
Now don’t ask me for the reasons of having an official party or the how’s and when’s to throw a successful official party, coz for all heavens under the sun, I don’t think anyone is bothered for what the party is and whether it is successful or not, all they want to have is some merry making and loads of fun. So then hey let the party begin and for that choicest champagne bottles to uncork.
Here are excerpts from the conversation that roving reporter matwalaboy happened to catch at one of the plush party thrown by some leading cola brand.
On the reason for the party
Assistant marketing manager(to his boss) Ah I love the ambience of the party sir and the wonderful success we have had off late thanks to the germ free cola that we have introduced in the market.
Senior marketing manager oh yes you are right, but then it did cost the company a bomb to actually have a germ and pesticide free product, you see. Hats off to the lab guys who could make the impossible possible.
Assistant marketing manager oh yes sir, but may I ask why is it so tough to make a product without pesticides.
Senior marketing manager ah no come on, don’t be so naïve, don’t you know the fragrance and slightly inebriated elevated state of mind that our thanda brings is because of the doses of pesticide we use in the name of formula.
Assistant marketing manager oh then by all means sir, let us have that in the cola otherwise it wont have the kind of fizz it now has.
Senior marketing manager that’s right, now do you understand the reason for this rather exorbitant party.
Assistant marketing manager oh jolly well yes sir, in this age of cut throat competition we have dared to launch a no germ no pesticide product and made marketing headlines. By Joe let the champagnes flow. But sir that’s not the official reason for the party, right?
Senior marketing manager oh yes that’s right, the reason for the party is to celebrate the corporate clean and environment friendly hundred years of existence of our esteemed company. You see after all we make such fine products for human consumption.
Right sir, we did not hear a thing that was being said there, after all its an official party right and the idea is to do some network building and corporate brandishing so to speak of.
Some excerpts from a rather charged up discussion between some rookies who have just joined the company.
on the party, food and general ambience
chap 1 hey folks, what do you think of the wonderful success your company has had and the great folks who have gathered here to celebrate it.
chap 2 ah now come on pal, lets not talk jargon, we are here to enjoy the party, lets talk about the booze, babes and the other colors of the night.
chap 1 oh now that’s not fair, its an official party and we should be indulging into merry making only. Come lets go talk to the senior guys of the company and do some network building.
chap 2(not too pleased) ah what is this man, you are being of such disrespect to the efforts and money pumped in by our company for this party by not having fun. Ah what fine wine they have on the house, wonderful food, awesome music and some of the hottest babes in town. I am out of here to enjoy it, you do your network building.
Chap 1 aka Sunil pushes off for his brand building and chap 2 aka Harish off to his fun-seeking spree. Sunil catches hold of some senior pros and hoping to do some contacts building crashes into them.
Finance pro I will tell you what guys, I love all this party thing that our thanda company keeps doing to make our lives hot. No botheration of the finance and cost of going to such a party when the company pays.
Sales pro you bet man, I hate it when people start talking business even at a party, for god’s it’s the time to disco man and not think about jargons like inventory, supply chain and all that crap, ah I hate it sometimes.
Media pro oh there she is, look at that babe there folks, she is sizzling aren’t she. She happens to be the VP’s daughter, (smiles mischievously) how about some contact building people?
Logistics pro you see I love this sort of event for the simple reason that for once in life, not everyone is after my happiness asking me for all sorts of things that have gone wrong. I can just sit back and have some fun taking a dig at the others for a change.
Human resources pro wow there are so many good looking people here, how about conducting a small recruitment here to spruce up the eye soothing quotient of the company, I am sure I will get an immediate sanction.
Sunil but sir don’t you think we should try and promote our company and the cause of the party.
Everyone in chorus take a chill pill pal, we can do that some other time what with such ambience and wonderful things on offer, lets have some fun.
Poor Sunil would be thinking what is this in the name of an official corporate party, lets see what our other hero, Harish is off to, ah there he is, what is he doing amongst those pretty faces.

Harish ah that, you see is the caveat, just gives us an excuse to have this fabulous party, we can take a little bit of high decibel brand building as long as the party rocks, right?
