The world is now growing and winding towards the idea of equality and feminism. But are we really taking these morals in our stride? Have we really forgotten that women are still hold the right to say NO? Well, someone had to pick up this story, and glad it was done by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury. After delivering acclaimed Bengalis dramas Antanin, Anuranan, and Aparajita Tumi, strides with chin-up into Hindi, and what a script to mark his debut!

Most guys still believing that ladki ke naa mein hi haan hai(even if a girl says no, it is a yes) need to watch this movie, because this is what you do to other so-called human beings. Knowingly, unknowingly, egoistical basis, male pride, image and reputation, has been the traits responsible for sufferings of many girls who leave their nest in hope for a better tomorrow.

This movie stirred a feeling in me, maybe it will do in every female, living away from family, really, living out there.

It is everyone’s story.

The three female protagonists of Pink is regular girls, living in posh South Delhi, making a living and learning everyday. Meenal Arora(Tapsee Pannu) is an event manager, whose work makes her return back even at oddly early hours. Falak Ali(Kriti Kulhari) works in a corporate where her beauty and image matter all. Andrea(Andrea Tariang) is from Meghalaya, she says this but no one seems to be interested, as girls from North East are a fair game even if they are wrapped from head till toe.

The movie starts with two cars moving in opposite directions. Each having three passengers – first one consisting of frightened, scared and exhausted-looking girls and the other vehicle has three boys. The terse in the air shows that there is some connection. One of the boys is bleeding. The sinister feeling in the night dawns over.

It comes to know later that these three girls met meet Rajveer Singh(Angad Bedi) and his two friends at a rock concert in Surajkund, Haryana, and night doesn’t seem to go as intended, when Rajveer gets hit by a beer bottle on hi head. And the women have to make run for it. It doesn’t take a genius to discover that the political connections backing the injured Rajveer(Angad Bedi) and his friends, Dumpy(Raashul Tandon), Vishwa(Tushar Pandey) and another fellow(Vijay Varma) who wasn’t there but is happy to participate in the humiliation of the women, will try and turn the tables: instead of being the victims of a ghastly crime, they will be painted as the aggressors.

A gender war starts, now this is more of his injured ego and less of his injury. Can it ever be more about the hurt and less about the hurt given?

Meenal is soon booked under Section 307 IPC, attempt to murder. Who cares even if she did it in self-defence. They were out with the boys, partying, and this is thought to have been girl’s fault if she lands into a sticky mud. A woman investigator doesn’t help either, after all she is part of this rules-drawn-needs-to-be followed hypocrite society.

But then the game changes, when a wel-intentioned man enters to fight this war for three girls. Once a successful lawyer Deepak Sehgal(Amitabh Bachchan) had given his argumentative profession a rest, but returns to the courtroom for a final show.

One thought crosses the mind, that one will need a sympathetic woman to fight this case and drive towards victory. But this is invalid once Big B takes over. His baritone and intimidating eyes, drives all the points homes with such valour, it is difficult not be awestruck with his performance. His presence completely dominates the courtroom and audience. There are no words for praises. He is what he has always been.

Every other actor has contributed equally regards their role. Tapsee excels in initial courtroom scenes, and Kirti take sit up a notch towards the finale. The girls have shown strong character while playing their roles and this movie is completely theirs. Nobody has overshadowed them, not even Big B.

Attention to the details are visible, and scenes change on rapidly, without drawing out anything that becomes preachy. There are no usual jazzy Bollywood villain, dramatic sound enhancements to accentuate the mood, but still the urge to keep hearing it dominant. There is no thrill created but still you might want to look away.

Also, this is a case that is ordinary in nature. It is a battle of pretension, ego, male superiority and pre-drawn skewed ideas of womanhood make it intriguing, complicated, disturbing and disgusting.

The reason that any girl can relate to this story is because everyone has seen a trifle and struggled thought it.

Watch it with anyone and everyone. Don’t judge the movie by its name, it holds more meaning than you can see.

A must-watch!
