A Fun film. Review on Phir Hera Pheri

There is great expectation from this film called Phir Hera Pheri. The Three stars (Paresh Rawal, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty) made their place in the hearts of Bollywood audience 5 years back. When the sequel for the movie is out, all expectations are manifold and people are waiting to see their favorite characters again in the screen.

THE STORY

From Hera Pheri ends, we start the film. Nana Patekar narrates the small mishaps happened during these years. Raju lost his mother. Shyam lost his would be "Anu Radha" in an accident. Paresh Rawal has nobody to lose. The three bought a big bungalow and they are staying there happily. Raju, little greedy than others, and when he heard of a scheme multiplying the amounts within 21 days, deposit his entire amount including the bungalow to earn quick reward. Only if the amount is 1 crore, the company (run by Bipasha Basu) will allow them to join the scheme. Raju also roped Rajpal Yadav, to the double the amount scheme, which he due to the famous undergrworld don Thathalu (Sharad Saxena). Inevitably, Bipasha was only a tool in the hands of the old villain Kabeera and our three heroes are back to square one in the old style of living. They need to refund the amount taken from Rajpal yadav, for which Sharad Saxena hold Rajpal yadav's sister (Rimi Sen) as pledge. The three take the challenge and do another Hera Pheri. Sunil Shetty finds Tabu in Bipasha Basu (who is the sister of Kashmira Shah of Hera Pheri) and Akshay ropes Rimi Sen. See the film to know more!

PERFORMANCES

Paresh Rawal is the usual self. He entertains the audience throughout. Akshay kumar plays Raju, as if he is just finished the shooting for Hera Pheri. Sunil Shetty have only a supporting role in this film and have not much scope to act and the director has not taken much efforts to extract more from him. Rajpal Yadav is strictly ok, Johny Lever is wasted. Manoj Joshi fails to impress. Sharad Saxena with his 'tha' language generated few laughing. The two leading ladies, Bipasha and Rimi do not have much to contribute, than to appear in 1 or 2 songs and appear in few scenes. Bipasha is hot as usual. Screen presence of Rimi is not utilized fully. All others are ok.

Out of the performance, Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar are the only 2 people who generates some good moments. Since they have the meaty roles, we should give an average mark to the performance. However, the comic timing of the original is very much missing.

STORY, SCREENPLAY & DIRECTION

The story failed to impress. Screen Play is average, but the dialogues by Neeraj Vohra is very good. The direction lacks the required punch. In Hera Pheri, all the characters had a reason for themselves and each one have a typical character. In PHP, the characters lost their identity. When they did a Hera Pheri, they did it in compusion, where in PHP they do it in greed. There are several loop holes in the story. However, the dialogues with acting of Paresh Rawal saved the film to an extent. The Malamaal Weekly type ending of the proceedings, especially the circus scenes is the real saving scene of the movie. The comic scenes at the end are prepared well. But the story is wandering without a purpose and many scenes which could have made a laugh riot not been utilized fully. The pillow fight and Paresh Rawal's roll away on the subji cart are examples from many.

Furthermore, the writer depended heavily on the Hera Pheri and tried to represent not one, but many scenes in the film. However, Neeraj Vohra has improved much from Khiladi 420.

MUSIC & CHOREOGRAPHY

Music is dull. But Choreography is ok. Background music support in some scenes, but in other scenes it fails to make much impression.

CINEMATOGRAPHY, EDITING AND SETS

Cinimatography, strictly average. In Hera Pheri, the light is been used nicely to reflect the mood of the situation, but here not much care been taken in that department. Editing could have been done better. Sets are ok.

In short, Phir Hera Pheri is an average film, much less than our expectations.

Few questions are circulated in the air. My answers go like this.

1. Is Phir Hera Pheri a better film or reach near the standard of Hera Pheri?

A: No. It trails long back.

2. Is Phir Hera Pheri is a worth watching movie?

A: Yes. There are several scenes you may enjoy, including the final scenes.

3. What will be the fate of Phir Hera Pheri in the box office?

A: We have to wait for few more days. We cannot write off this film because it has created much hype and there is a fan following the film, like the director of the original film.

AUDIENCE RESPONSE

Many are enjoying the film (with loud laugh) thoroughly and few are sitting without much interest. However, it is clear that there is fun for people who love it.

So, go to the movie and judge yourself how it fares.
