Sarkar babu, I need to ask a question?

What were you trying to do in the name of God!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must admit, I went in with a lot of expectations. Believe me or not, I've never seen Sathyam Cineplex in chennai so crowded in recent years. So I thought to myself '' Must be a really good movie''. Alas, Parineeta disappoints big time. It just doesn't get a move on. I felt like shouting, comeon next scene. Get over it. The scenes were so predictable that the girl next to me was just jabbering the whole thing flawlessly.

Everything about Parineeta is just...SLOW.

If we count the number of necessary scenes to the unnecessary, Parineeta would have a running time of only 1.30 mins.

And Guys, You really want to hear the story?

Shekar(Saif) & Lolita( Vidya Balan) are chilhood friends( Ye Ye Very close, fevicol bonding)Lolita stays with her Mamaji. He's got a debt from shekar's father & pleged his haveli. He thinks that Saif's father is a good person( How can he be,there has to be a villain).Lolita works in Naveen Babu's(Saif's father) office. She comes to know that he is planning to build a hotel at her haveli.Enters Girish( Sanju baba).Saves them from the debacle by paying the money.Frustrated Naveen babu tells '' when you wanted small money you came to my son, when someone pays you big you go to him.Get out you whore''.Lolita leaves & gap widens between shekar & Lolita. He thinks that she has married Girish.Girish comes & says I've married Koel( Lolita's cousin Raima sen). And yes,Sudden bravery befalls our Shekar & Ye ...He breaks the wall which his father had built.

Another question Sarkar babu. Did you intend to make the audience laugh in the climax?

Saif says '' Meri shaadi ho chuki hai(I’ve got married '')

Saif's father '' Kisse? (With whom?) ''

Saif '' Lolita ''

Saif's mother '' Sach? (Really, with a lot of happiness. It was like she was waiting for this dialogue) Errrr.

The recording scene were the Piya Bole song is sung in a Bengali way. Hilarious stuff. But in a sense it was like ridiculing the Bengali way of singing.

Sanju baba tells saif '' Maine Lolita sey nahi,Koel se shaadi ke hai''

Saif '' Ab main kya karoon? ''

Sanju '' Apne baba se pooch''

Wait a minute. I missed this whole character of Gayathri played by our own Miss Asia Pacific Dia Mirza. Its not that I’ve got a bad memory, it's like that’s the importance of that role (If you can call it one). She comes & talks like '' umm ,ye,attitude,i like it...once I get married, I’ll kill him( What for?) Kill me, I'm the one who is confused with what’s this lady doing in this film question.

Pathetic dialogues. Really wanted to know was it intended to be like this or is just misfired badly. Think the climax was meant to be serious. It turned out to be the biggest comic situation in the movie.

You got to see to believe the '' Thod shekar Thod '' scene. At that moment I wanted to bury my face inside the ground like an ostrich with embarrassment & shout “Are classic's meant to be like this?” Why doesn’t he just run to her house? Why do they kill us with melodrama? Did Sarat Chandra write it that way?

The rekha song, the other sad song, kasto Mazza( brilliantly picturised ) were absolutely unnecessary.

Performances are the saving grace of Parineeta.Saif easily slips into the role of shekar; Vidya balan makes a fine debut. She has got a great voice. Excellent performance by Raima Sen. She is one of those untapped talent in the industry.

Sanju baba sparkles . When Sanju baba entered, it was like the whole theatre said '' At last''. His comic one-liners were brilliant. It's one of his very good performances. A very dignified portrayal (Something which his father did effortlessly).

Cinematography (Nataraja subramaniam) is fabulous. It’s one of the highlights of the film. Editing (was there an editor?)... Music fits the bill perfectly. Piya Bole is the pic of the lot.

Ideally Parineeta should have been made into a play. It should never have been made into a film.

Guys get out of the Bengali mould; there are other classics to explore.
