That's Panasonic VCD player. I bought SL VP 30 model in 1999 Feb. costing INR Rs. 8500/-. My friend has bought it for Rs. 6000/- last year and it might got further cheaper. Initially, I purchased a set of Sansui 29'' TV, VCD player (3 VCDs) & Home theater system plus Videocone washing machine and Refridgerator costing total Rs. 68000/-. But once all the things to my home I lost the space to sleep or sit. All the things were too bulky. The VCD player took all the table space. The 29'' TV was put in a risky position on the table and the riskiest were the 5 big home theater dabbas (speakers) which they somehow hanged here and there around my bed. Whole night I could not sleep, god knows when some dabba will fall on my head. While watching TV, I was feeling as if I am sitting inside the TV. All the lines were visible clearly. Finally, I decided to return it back and thanks to Doon Fan Traders that they took it back charging only Rs. 100/- for transport (Nice people, aren't they). Then I purchased An AIWA TV and this Panasonic SL VP 30 model VCD player. This VCD player is a sleek, portable single VCD player something like a CD walkman. You can use it as a VCD player or an audio CD player or a VCD walkman on your travel. It runs on electricity and cell equally well. So the reason behind purchasing the Panasonic SL VP 30 VCD player was mainly the space saving. Let me describe the features one by one:

The look The look of this model Panasonic SL VP 30 is good. a sleek one. Beautiful.

Space saving The best feature of this model. Can be put anywhere. It is a CD walkman type you know. Beware, If it gets stolen you will never know.

Ruggedness Very rugged. My friends (what friends? rather they are bloody enemies) have taken it here and there and used it left and right every day almost. That's the problem with these portable things you know. But it is running well and has not given any problem till date in these 3 and a half years. I never needed to contact any mechanic ever.

Picture and Sound quality It is quite good. I don't think it varies much from VCD to VCD. It is almost the same. But some VCDs which couldn't get opened by my friends' computer CD drives have been running well on this VCD player. So I will say that something special is there in this VCD player.

Remote My experiences are bad with the remote of this VCD player. The sleek very small remote was difficult to operate. And it got failed within a month and could never be repaired again (that fellow charged Rs. 100 from me, I brought remote back to home and it was again not working). So the remote is useless and I have lost it now.

Fast forward and Reverse Very slow. Just keep standing there to see the fast & reverse forwarded drama. Sometimes it jumps to the end of the VCD as soon as you press the fast forward or reverse button. This may be due to the fact that I have mostly used Cheap quality VCDs.

Walkman type operations In these operations, this VCD player has a problem. When it is running on cell, If you have put it on your lap, your slight movement will create a jerk (or cut) in the sound. Further the cells need to be new to run the CD properly.

Ease of use Since SL VP 30 is a single VCD player, you have to walk down to it to change the VCD. A big headache in the winter nights specially if you are watching the movie with your GF. So, take care of this problem to avoid her anger and your future inconvenience.

Cost Performancewise cost is quite OK. It varies from here to there and timewise.

So buy it if you want a rugged, portable, small, sleek VCD player plus walkman. But beware of the changing VCD discomfort of single VCD players (you may go for three VCD players then). And my VCD player model does not have the MP3 player also. So, check if new players have it, to enjoy the non-stop music.
