Palakkad my place of birth......is also called the rice granery of Kerala.
Much has been said of Alleppey, Kumarakom, Munnar & other places of attraction in Kerala.........no doubt they make Kerala, God's own country, but Palakkad has a charm of it own.
Its long winding roads, its never ending paddy fields & most importantly Bharatapuzha the longest river in Kerala are an integral part of this place, it has a history dating more than 600 years.
It has a wonderful fort built by Tipu Sultan & Malampuzha Gardens bulit like the Vrindavan Gardens of Mysore.
If the state tourism department & the govermnent of Kerala takes a little more interest in developing this place, this will definitely be on par with the tourist destinations like the rest of Kerala.
The district also boasts of several temples & there are a lot of festivals which start from January onwards till April end.....the Kalpathy Ratholsvam in November is generally a huge attraction, Nenmara Vallangi Vela, generally held in March end or early Apr is also a huge attraction...there are so many temples, festivals & places waiting to be uncorked.
To travel there any time of the year is good but try avoiding travelling in May due to summers & from June to Aug due to rains.
