HAIR-A WOMENS GREATEST ASSET:

Do You Know?

Beautiful hair is a blessing but a healthy diet can make your hair glossy, silky & shining.Lovely, shinning hair is one of a womens greatest beauty assets. Hair tends to be the body's barometer indicating good health or lack of it. It is seen that the average life of a hair is about five years. Hair is a precious beauty asset so it deserves good care.

There are normally 4 types of hair-normal, greasy, dry and greasy dry. Normal hair is shiny yet not greasy, and fairly easy to manage. Greasy hair looks good for a day or two after shampooing, but then quickly becomes lanky. Dry hair is difficult to control after shampooing, looks dull and has ends that are dry and split. Greasy hair is usually fairly long and the hair nearest to the scalp is greasy while the ends are dry.

The beauty of hair, too, depends on good health. Since hair is made from protein, a diet high in proteins is advised. The valuable vitamins of the B complex are imp and one of the best source is brewers yeast. Include minerals such as copper, iron, iodine. Copper and iron are present in our everyday foods like meat and leafy green vegetables.

BEAUTY TIPS FOR YOUR HAIR:

  1. MASSAGE WITH A GOOD OIL:

Helps to improve circulation and loosen the tensed muscles. Once a week before retiring to bed massage your scalp with any good oil(heat it). Tie a scarf over the hair to allow the oil to penetrate completely. Next morning soak a towel in hot water and wrap it around the scalp for 15-20 mins. This opens the blocked pores. Give the hair a good wash with egg shampoo. This treatment is great for dry, lifeless hair.

2.Another beauty tip is after giving your hair a good wash, boil 5 tsps of used tea leaves in lime water and use this as the last rinse after shampoo. This gives the hair a lustrous shine and provides nourishment too.

3.BRUSHING YOUR HAIR:

Give your hair a 100 strokes every night with a brush or comb before your head touches the pillow. Remember that the root of each hair is the sebaceous gland that supplies oil to keep each hair soft and gleaming. Press the bristles of the brush against the scalp to exercise and squeeze the tiny oil resevoirs.

It is very important that the combs and brushes be kept clean. So wash them as often as you wash your hair. Add a few drops of ammonia to water and clean the brushes and combs. Brushing moulds the hair, makes it more manageable and gives it a prettier gloss. Avoid brushing the hair when hair is wet. Wet hair is like elastic. It stretches easily and snaps. It needs to be handled carefully.

4.HAIR SHAMPOOS:

It is necessary to remove from the hair dirt and all the secretions of sebaceous glands which accumulate on the scalp. The process of shampooing is divided into 2 portions so that you lather twice and rinse after each lather. Rinse throughly in plenty of water(preferably rain water)until the hair squeaks when you rub it with your fingers.

Choose the right type of shampoo for your hair type.

EGG SHAMPOOS are good for DRY OR NORMAL hair. LEMON based shampoos are advised for OILY hair. If your hair is very oily, apply the shampoo directly, without first wetting hair with water.

Wash your hair atleast once a week-or as often as you like or need to. As long as you use a conditioner frequent washing will do no harm.

Dry your hair as naturally as you can-wrap a towel round in a turban style to absorb all the moisture.

5.A PRE-SHAMPOO TREATMENT:

For very dry hair, warm 2 tblsps of olive oil. Massage throughly into the hair and scalp. Wrap a very damp towel round the head for 20 mins and then shampoo twice. This gives the hair a very good sheen and makes it soft. I have tried biotique's Bhringraj oil and found it pretty good specially if you are suffering from the problem of hair fall. This oil encourages hair growth as it contains goat milk, amla and so on.

6.To avoid chemical build up, cleanse your hair with a different shampoo after approximately ten washes. Clairol's Herbal Essences has a special clarifying shampoo to remove build up caused by your regular shampoo. Further, remember that your hair keeps changing, so don't stick to one shampoo just because you once felt it suited you.

7.CONDITIONERS:

Choose your conditioners the same way you choose your shampoo-by price and effectiveness. There are different versions for each type of hair. A good hair conditioner available in the market will help you enormously. This should be used after shampoo and before the final rinse. Leave it on for 5 mins, combing it through the hair repeatedly(so that it spreads evenly), then rinse and set. The best conditioner is'MASSAGE'. Beer is a great conditioner. Pour it over your hair after shampooing, and wash off in five minutes.

8.Always have your hair trimmed regularly. Even hair in good condition can have split ends and if left, they will split further and leave the ends looking dead and ragged.

9.HEAT AND YOUR HAIR:

Always use a protective lotion on your hair before subjecting it to a powerful heat. Don't use rollers that are too hot, or hold the hair dryer too close to your head. You could damage your hair.

Remember I had said in the beginning' Beautiful hair is a blessing but a healthy diet can make your hair glossy, silky & shining.' Remember, taking good care of your hair alone won't help. Hair is a barometer of the body's health-or lack of it. You've got to feel great, for your hair to look great. Your hair needs a decent supply of proteins/vitamins/irons. A healthy diet and good general health along with a little care is required to have glossy, silky and shinning hair.

So why don't you reach out for some healthy recipes.
