Warning: This review doesn’t have the history of Orkut. Those who have visited this page to know about the history will be highly disappointed.

It was a cold night… I was so bored… And I woke up quite early next morning and walked all the way to pick some groceries. But all the shops were closed and shuffling songs from my mobile, I switched couple of channels and as usual the monotonous programs didn’t thrill me much. It’s a lonely street and thy art got no walls. You walk straight down and the smell of a distant flower blooming make you feel refreshed. You can just sit on the bench which is labeled as ‘Rust in Piece’. I have no option but to sit and stare.

Those were the days I was invited to this world of networking and the name wasn’t too familiar to me since I was an active member in Hi5. Later got bored with it and joined Face Book. Now, I don’t have both the accounts but just one and its Orkut. When Brazilian’s and Indian’s prefer this as their route to conversation, I got a bit carried away by the Communities that had people who shared mutual interests. I was one among them and it was called ‘Pink Floyd’. Later I had to unjoin from the community but of course I would have stayed if and only if I knew their language. I heard about Orkut Büyükkökten story and mistook for reaching those lost souls who was with me during my school days. Instead, I ended up hitting on to some unknown faces which of course had the same name of those whom I knew. Is it something like a multiple-disorder? Darn this Scrap Book and it’s visible to the entire world and thank you ‘Google’' for coming up with the security option wherein I am safe from the world outside my friends list. Yep, Orkut rules in India but Face Book beat it worldwide.

  • My likes/Dislikes -

Scrap Book – It’s simple and easy to use.

Photo Album – Not bad but then who has got time to view them all. Most of the users have uploaded with hundreds of photos and by the end one may feel lost ‘on an island’ craving for water.

Fans- What’s the purpose?

Cool/Sexy/Trust Worthy- Would you please use this space to ‘design’ with something else?

Themes- They can come up with some quality themes and not the ones that have child like designs. It reminds me of my childhood.

Communities- I like the feature but then none of the members in it are active and I stay away from it. There are over thousands of communities and including me, every user is a part or must have created one for the sake of ‘experimenting creativity’.

Testimonials- It’s nice. I find it very useful and I don’t think any other social networking site has got this feature. If yes, pardon my ignorance.

Chat- Gtalk and I find it quite useful since I can go invisible to chat with people who are online. Well, its not that I don’t want to chat with the rest but seeing me online, I don’t want them to go invisible.

Videos- Thanks to this feature. It helped me to gain some knowledge in music. Like they say ‘only love… only love can leave such a mark… Only love, only love can leave such a scar’. Oh yes, the love for music is something similar to how a drifter wander for oasis in the wilderness.

Its fun… For time being we are assured of something that binds us together and later when it becomes a pain, you disappear. You have an option to delete your account and probably the same reason made me delete the account once. Those friends and acquaintances stay with us everyday. Even if you want to be away from them for a while, the minute you sign in, those smiling or the faces with ‘celebrities’ pops up to say ‘Hello’. Wow, great and next they will insist us to write a ‘testimonial’. And alas they will politely request us to join a community. Awesome! I don’t want to get back to the history of Orkut as it is known to many and my fellow writers have told about it in their reviews.

Like a normal website, you can sign up with this website and the minute you are in, you find everything fresh and bracing. And the minute you leave, everything becomes a retch. Oh, that reminds me of the days I started using it and my scrap book used to fill with many comments and later when I login to the site occasionally, there are hardly any. I wouldn’t blame any but then everybody knows what is happening in each one of our lives through that ‘Status Box’. Some say, ‘I am not expecting somebody’s scrap. Leave a scrap and if it’s you, then don’t expect my reply’. Gone are the days when I used to add strangers on to my list and later found out that the person was the same guy who hangs around with us. Those were the days I used to get friend request from Brazil and Africa saying ‘CONTENT CENSORED’… Earlier I kept a birthday alarm but then Orkut is quite useful in reminding me of the upcoming birthdays. That helps me a lot and I guess it’s very, very important to wish someone on his/her birthday. Nah, it’s not because one has to but in a way missing a birthday treat is something like missing a ‘Feast’.

Gone were the days I used to flip through the profiles knowing the fact that the user will not have any record in her ‘Recent Visitors’ list since I have disabled it under my settings. Now, why do I use Orkut? Well, I can say hello to those whom I am not going to see anymore. I can say ‘Keep smiling’ to those my dear ones who are depressed. I can add videos of my choice and show the rest of the world. I can upload few snaps to let my childhood friends know this is how I look. For all the time spent in that ‘caged box’, I too have some memoirs. Like they say, ‘Yesterday has been and gone… Tomorrow will I find the sun or will it rain? Everybody is having fun except me; I’m the lonely one…’ And the song has been changed… You got couple of friends in the list… You are not alone… You won’t feel lonely… And it’s time for me to end this review. Before I end it, let me tell you that Orkut actually displays your fortune. And the one which I got today was ‘The person who read this has lost his psychic powers and lost his job’. Oh yea, jokes apart. You can sign up. Don’t get addicted. If you do so, then you will get bored fast. It’s a website you can use to say hello to your friends and nothing ‘more’ to it. So I guess Orkut is more than enough for it especially when it’s not confusing and for the simple way to function it.

And when you join Orkut, remember… remember this slogan… So… ‘Who do you know?’ `~`
