TEETH - A very commonly neglected part of the body(especially if one doesnt have a dental insurance).Taking care of them doesnt ask for a lot, but for many people its a hard job. Come on, if u count a good tooth brushing(twice daily) and good flossing(once or twice) would take approximately 10 minutes of your time every day. All you have to do is:

Brush twice daily

Floss regularly

Eat a balanced diet

Chew Gum

Visit the Dentist atleast half yearly for a checkup

1.GOOD NIGHT

PLEASE BRUSH BEFORE GOING TO BED

This must be the rule of thumb. Its the MOST important aspect of maintaining good dental health, because most of the decay starts and progresses during the time of inactivity during sleep(which allows the accumulation of bacteria on teeth which cause dental decay).Brushing before going to bed removes any food lodgement and minute food particle stuck to the teeth surfaces.

2.GOOD MORNING

Most of the people brush after waking up. Brushing in morning helps remove any bad breath.

3.FLOSSING

Flossing should be done everytime after meals using a waxed dental Floss.

4.EAT GOOD FOOD

Guys, I dont mean Pizza hut or Mcdonalds. I mean food rich in fibers and low in sugars and carbohydrates. And yes drink less carbonated drinks. Carbonated drinks promote chemical wearing off of enamel.

5.CHEWING GUM

Chewing gum is very healthy for the teeth as it removes any kind of deposits from the teeth surfaces by frictionally cleaning them, but it has to be SUGARLESS. And yes, dont overdo the gum.If you keep on chewing a gum the whole day, it might give you TMJ problem.

6.DENTAL VISITS

Regular checkups(ideally every six months) will help your teeth stay cleaner, last longer and can prevent painful problems from developing. Depending on your age, risks of disease and symptoms, your dentist may recommend X-rays. X-rays can diagnose problems otherwise unnoticed.

7.CORRECT TOOTH BRUSHING TECHNIQUE

Tilt the brush at a 45° angle against the gumline and sweep or roll the brush away from the gumline. #Gently brush the outside, inside and chewing surface of each tooth using short back-and-forth strokes.

8.FLOSSING TECHNIQUE

Tear off a piece of floss -Wrap the floss around middle finger of each hand & hold it between the thumbs and the forefingers.

-Slide the floss inbetween teeth and move it in a C-shape making sure any kind of lodged particles are removed.

  • Let go of one end and remove the floss .

-Repeat at other sites.(all teeth) .

9.TOOTH BRUSH

Use a tooth brush which has soft bristles & a small head. A tooth brush should usually last for 3-5 months. If it lasts for a greater duration, you are not brushing good enough. If it lasts for less than 3 months, it means that you are brushing very vigorously and you might be harming your teeth and/or gums.

10.MOUTHWASHES

Its always a good idea not to use mouthwash on a regular basis as they could disturb the normal oral flora . Their use is be done infrequently and when advised by the dentist.
