The Eagles Reach a New Level

With ''On the border'' the Eagles reach a new level. The record has a fascinating mixture of songs that range from pure songs of love to heavy rockers. My personal favourite in the collection is, however, ''My Man.'' This is a dreamy song and a eulogy to one of their friends. It has a wistful, life-enriching feel to it and a beat that makes you think about the many good things in life as you listen.

Unlike ''Desperado'' the songs do not follow a general theme.

A few notes about the stand-out tracks (some of which appeared on the world-renowned ''Their Greatest Hits 71-75'' Compilation) and most of which deserve to be better known:

''You never cry like a lover'' - A piercing love song with intricate musical bridges and an up-tempo feel. The rhythm changes quite a bit.

''Midnight Flyer'' - A song about a train, which you can imagine hurtling through the vast American countryside. Has something of a ''country'' feel about it

''My Man'' - Wistful and philosophical - ''No man's got it made until he's far beyond the pain (of life) and we who must remain go on laughing, loving, living just the same'' A very nice tune.

''On the border'' - The title cut which seems to be about pushing the boundaries of life and not settling for, accepting the status quo. It has a bouncy beat (almost disco at times) and some very clever https://lyrics. ''Driving down the centre of a two-way street, wondering who is really in the driver's seat, minding my business along comes big brother, Says son you'd better get on one side or the other ....''

''James Dean'' - the heavy rocker in the collection. Like the statement that is made about James Dean ''You were too fast to live, too young to die, bye bye''

''Best of my love'' - A slow dreamy love song, which most will know from the Eagles Greatest Hits collections.

Best song: ''MY MAN'' but closely followed by ''ON THE BORDER'' and ''YOU NEVER CRY LIKE A LOVER''.

If you can find this, give it a listen. I am very sure that you will love it.
