Hollywood have thier big budget science fictions, chinese have their martial arts, so whats different about Bollywood. What do we bring to the  table, when we want to go international.

It is our song and dance sequences( and no, western countries dont laugh at it anymore), our melodramatic love stories, lovers taking rebirth to complete their 7 janam ki prem kahani, and. not to forget. the beautiful concept of happy endings. because if everything is not fine.to picture abhi baaki hai mere dost!

Having said that, let me make my self clear, Om Shanti Om is not our

ride to western glory, but it definitely shows the way. Farah Khan has

shown tremendous growth as a director, but she is still not at her

best.

I always belive, what makes or breaks a movie is the director, more than anyone else. Farah Khan shows moments of shere brilliance. Her choice of music in her movies tells me she is going to be a very famous director in bollywood. Not many get that right, and in hindi movies, good music is half the battle won.

She extracts great performances from all her actors. Praising Shah Rukh Khan is like stating the obvious. Melodramatic love stories and item numbers are his home turf. He proves that again. But the way Deepika acts, and the credit goes to Farah more than Deepika herself, or even the support actors is simply phenomenal.

She pulls of comedy very well. This movie has more hilarious moments than some of the other "self proclaimed comdey specialist directors" generally offer. Again, the credit goes to Farah. The comic scenes are well written and very well orchestrated.

The plot is a little. used and abused over the last few decades. That makes it very difficult to execute. Which is why you can see a lot of loop holes. So if you go to see this movie as a critic, you can make a very long list of mistakes and things that got over looked. But if you go to see this movie for the sake of having fun, and being entertained, you will get your money's worth.

It does have its pitfalls though. The movie is TOO long. You have to be a die hard fan of Shah Rukh Khan to NOT complain. The key to bringing back people to the theatres for the same movie, is to leave them gagging for more. They should walk out of the cinemas in awe of what they saw. When a movie gets streched to nearly 3 hours, most of your audience will breathe a sigh of relief when it ends. That will not help you cause.

Like I mentioned earlier, the plot is not handled the best possible way. There are parts of the script that are not necessarily relevant to the plot. Farah spends too much time on these parts. As a result, some of the other aspects of the story, ( I wont name them, coz my idea of writing a review is not narrating the story), which are more relevant to the plot, dont get propery explained. The screenplay just rushes through them.

Summing it up, watch this movie if you are a big shah rukh khan fan, you like the music  that you might have head and seen on television, you want to see deepika look like a greek goddess and you facny the concept of re incarnation.

If you are sceptical and cynical by nature, dont bother wasting money, you will come out disappointed.
