In the mid seventies, when Michael Sarazzin and Jennifer ONeill sizzled in J.Lee Thompson's 'The Reincarnation of Peter Proud', the Indian Audience were treated with a new style of reincarnation stuff.  Earlier we were fed with Mahal and Madhumati types. And when Peter Proud was made in Hindi as 'Karz; with dazzling disco music and lights with Rishi Kapoor swinging on the revolving stage, a flashy dhesi style was introduced here. Films like Mehbooba and Karan Arjun followed. And now it is the turn of Farah Khan to give pink and magenda shades to this offbeaten plot, with King Khan as its producer.

The movie has no flashback techniques etc, just plain story telling. 30 years back before the intervel and the contemporary settings after the intervel. As the storyline has been discussed in all the other reviews I just skip it here. If you are someone who belonged to the 70s, then there is a real treat for Hindi film lovers. The bollywood of the 70s is hilariously depicted here, with parodies on the then stars like Rajesh Khanna, Manoj Kumar etc. As the hero is a junior artist and the heroine a super star, small snippets of Bollywood are dropped here and there and they are really crunchy. And the modern Bollywood is also interestingly shown with take offs on likes like the Sippys and Barjatyas.

The entire film is cheesy and loaded with nothing but pure entertainment. Great choreography by the director is an added asset to the film. Be it the style of the seventies or the modern Bollywood, the dance sequences are choreographed with taste, and especially the song sequence in which most of the Bollywood stars come and dance is a visual treat. There is no place for histrionics in this movie. Shah Rukh is just Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone looks very beautiful, indeed. Even Arjun Rampal , as an actor hasn't created much of an impression. But what makes the film an entertainer is the song picturisations and the light treatment given to the script, and interestingly the movie has no fight sequences, except a minute's brawl  in the end.

Music by Vishal-Sekar is Okay. Sabu Cyril has succedded in bringing the grandeur of the film sets of the 70s. And Manikandan's cinematography...it is upto you to judge, as I cannot pat my own shoulder, i.e. my younger brother's.

The movie is just an unabashed entertainer and not a pseudo sentimental crap and fans of such types , keep away from this.
