The movie is decent. Its stylish, slick, entertaining and
maintains a good pace throughout. The last 20 minutes
are rivetting and the highlight of the movie.
But step out of the hall and you aren't fully
satisfied.Looking back,you find that the movie doesn't
have much to offer other than the style that oozes out
from practically every scene. It is finally another one
of those robber movies where everything seems so
simple. All the script writer does is bombard you with
some crap which has to pass of as the planning part of
the robbery and then adds a couple of twists at the
end to give it the correct effect. Hardly any brains
need to go into the planning part. Right from
obtaining the vault plans to hiring people for the job
to constructing the replica of the vault to the actual
execution, everything is so very simple and smooth that
you begin to wonder what you are doing sitting in that
theatre when you should be out robbing a casino. And
hey,the security systems are always so open to
hacking.Anyone walks in,puts a couple of trippers on a
few wires and bingo, you're through the system. The
movie concentrates more on being stylish than on being
intelligent. One of these days I would certainly like
to see a robber movie which devotes atleast some time
to planning out the robbery in an intelligent
manner. And finally at the end,you have a shot of the
ten men watching the fountains with the camera
focussing on each one of them giving them that heroic
look. This oft repeated pseudo-heroism of the robbers
is so very lame,it somehow gets on my nerves. They're
robbers after all, not some great
philanthrophists.Whats so heroic about a robbery?
Yes,I would amire them for their intelligence and guts
if they were shown possessing any of those
qualities. But hey, where do they get to show their
intelligence and guts when the planning phase is so
childish and the execution phase passes off with
hardly any hitches? Alas, I do find that the audience
always manage to relate to this pseudo heroism and
maybe thats what gives the directors the impetus to go
after it again and again.
Don't get me wrong.I didn't hate the movie.The movie
is good while it lasts and a nice timepass for two
hours. Don't be demanding and you'll find it quite
enjoyable. Its worth a watch but certainly not a must
see.
But I must still say I was disappointed. When you copy
a script the least you could do is try and improve
upon it instead of just trying to add glamour to it.I
really can't believe its been made by the same guy who
made Traffic. But then he's also the guy who made Erin
Brokovich.So I guess it figures.
