I moved to Nokia E63 from HTC Windows Mobile based phone. I bought Nokia E63 as HTC phones available in India were out of my budget.
So this purchase was by compromise and not by choice. So here goes my list of usability issues with stupid symbian OS that Nokia stuffs in all its phones.
Dedicated Camera key on main screen. what a crap.? this is a business phone, what is the need of a camera key on main screen.? as a standard most stupidest phones have Menu on left and Contacts on right.
Dangerously placed "Switch off" option in the menu. Switch off appears as the top most menu option when u hit red button, even the most primitive cell phones dont have such stupid design bug. I switched off by mistake many times when actually wanted to lock the phone.
Gives you option to Copy the text, but wont allow you to paste it everywhere. here is what I wanted. somebody sent me a cell phone number through SMS, I wanted to save that number in my contacts. crappy symbian doesnt allow copy from SMS.!(Windows mobile underlines any number appearing in a SMS, and allows u to select and call that number directly. once dialled u can save it your contacts)
Phone shows useless information. When u recieve a call, once connected it shows something like'Call 1'. Dear Nokia engineers, what made you think that showing "Call 1" wud be any help to the user.?
Why cant u keep showing the contact name and and number just like u show when the phone rings.?
Phone has world's most horrible call log. In order to see call duration u need to go to Menu>Log>Press right button to see the detailed log.(why cant u make call duration info available when I press green button to see dialled numbers.? all other normal phones do that way.)
Phone hides contact information. it is normal for many people to have an office number, cell number and landline number. if u have multiple numbers under one contact, and that contact calls you, this stupid phone wud hide the label of the number. I mean it wont tell u that contact is calling you from his cell, office number or home number. This information is important if u dont remember the numbers or when u want to guess something based on where the contact is. for example if ur manager calls u from his office number, and if he calls from his cell, u can judge no. of things from this. but this stupid phone wont tell u when the phone is ringing. it wud just say "Contact Name 99887776655 Calling". but calling from where.? home, office.?
Battery indicator lies. many times I see battery indicator shows half charge in night around 11 PM, when I wake up around 6.30 phone is dead due to battery. in just 7-8 hours on standby half battery is used. I wonder if phone starts dreaming in night and hence loses charge.
Comes with outdated crappy real player. Real player does not have a File>Open option. I dont know what is the use of Real Player. any idea why this crap is installed by Nokia.? PC magazine has awarded Real Player as one of the crappiest software in the history.
Does not search ur call history when typing a number. When I start typing a number this crap phone only searches contact names and shows options. it doesnt search called history. moreover, when I type+91 it just shows contacts whose name starts from I, as I and+ symbol are on same key.
Dear Nokia engineers, please stress ur tiny brain some more. when I press+91, I wish to search for a contact that has name starting with I as well as all those contacts whose numbers starts with+91. if u dont have even that tiny brain, just copy Windows or android.
- It wont let me select a number from call history to send SMS to. Lets say I wrote a SMS, and I would like it to send it to a number from which I just got a call. how do I do that.? No I cant. coz Nokia wud allow me to add recipients only from contacts. not from my call history.
Dear Nokia Engineers, please dont assume that everyone who calls me deserves to be stored in my address book. also dont assume that everyone who calls me and is not stored my address book will never be sent a SMS. so please open up ur brain an inch further and allow me to select a number from my call history.
This is all I have for now. I love wireless connectivity, 3.5 mm headphone socket and browsing speed.!
