Hi friends.

This is my first cell phone review in mouthshut.com. I first purchased my cell phone in 2005. After using 3 handsets I decided for a change. So I began searchning the markets for a phone with large display, PC connectivity and optional FM radio and mostly within my budget of Rs.5500.

After a lot of reviews and discussions with my friends I decided to purchase this phone. So on 01-01-2007 I purchased this phone for Rs 5500 in Hyderabad. This is my first Nokia phone.

The good things about this phone:

1)Large CSTN screen display 128 X 160 pixel

2)Soft Keypad

3)5 way navigation keys

4)Infrared - very useful you can import or transfer anything from your pc or other phones.

5)GPRS and FM radio

6)Java

7)Loudspeaker with good clarity especially for FM radio

8)PC Connectivity

9)Wallpapers and Screensavers and Themes

10)Very good in-built Java applications

11)Flash messages - This is really cool

12)Graphical Smileys - but will be more perfect if the clarity of the

smileys are increased, they look blurred, but the inclusion is good.

Now the really BAD Things about this phone:

-------------------------------------------------------------

1)Screen is not that much brilliant when compared to other phones like samsung

2)Too small inbuilt memory - only 3 MB

3)Phone book size is also small only 500

4)Delivery report for the sent messages is stored as a seperate message. Again you have to manually delete them from your inbox.

5)Camera is the worst as it is not even 1 megapixel. Really camera is of no use.

6)Worst FM radio interface GUI. Nokia needs to totally redesign the FM radio interface GUI

7)Battery charging takes more than 2 hours from battery low condition to battery full

8)The accessories supplied with this phone are charger and

headset-model:HS-5 (single ear type). The quality of the accessories

are so bad that you will not believe that they are supplied by

Nokia.(Still don't understand why they decreased quality. Here in India

People identify Nokia for its product quality not the looks)

9)No adjustment on how long the backlight should stay on

10)Very Confusing GPRS menu settings for manual configuration. The inbuilt browser is dead slow.

11)Mono headphones bundled with the pack

12)Regarding saving the phone numbers, for example if you save a phone

number it does not ask you which type the number is i.e. Home, Office,

Mobile etc. Instead it saves the number as general number. You have to

first save the number and then change its type. This is very frustating

to store numbers of people who have more than one contact number.

13)The supplied manual does not explain everything in all the menus.

An interesting addon to my review:

From the nextday of purchasing the cell phone, problems started. After using the handset for around 6 hours when I tried to charge the phone, it refused to charge. So the nextday I took it to a Nokia care centre. The people there took 3 days to say that the set is beyond repairable and needs to send to Nokia HQ in banagalore and will take a min of 15 to 20 days to get a replacement.

As the cell phone is my only contact with my family members and friends, I asked them to provide a standby set. They refused to provide one.

After a lot of arguments and emails with the nokia HQ people at bangalore only after 10 days they called me and said my set was ready and I can collect it from the Nokia care centre. But to my surprise they provided me a new set but a different colour. When enquired they said they will replace the faulty handsets with the ones available and they cannot do anything with the outer cosmetics and colours.

OK. Happy atleast I got a new handset. After using it for 2 days, the handset's speaker developed a problem. Again I took it to the care centre and the technician there after examining it told me that the speker is faulty and needs to be serviced. **He said it will take around more than 15 days as the spares are not available. (even for a new model like 6070 ???)

Now the million dollar question:

1) How can a very reputed brand like Nokia say - spares not available that too with a service centre located in a metro state capital?

More surprising is that the service centre I contacted is the largest in the city and head office to many service centres in the city.

Only GOD knows the real meaning of the words "**Unavailability of spares for a new model"

So friends, my strong advice is avoid buying this cell phone. Don't just get cheated with the looks.
