I got this phone just about yesterday.

The dealer I bought it from was quiet uninterested in the sale. However I had taken to buying a 6021 but due to lack of availability I ended up buying the 6030

I was initially quite disappointed since a number of features I would badly like to have are missing. Also a few of the existing ones were not quiet upto the mark.

I have attempted to list the pros and cons here.

Before that let me summarise the prime objectives for buying this cell phone:

  • Basic telephony

  • Note taking

  • Time keeper and calculator

  • Basic gaming / time pass device

  • one stop address book maintaner for me

Now for the cons list:

  • No support for Memo notes.i.e. I would dearly love to have a feature for entering short memos and notes for later work / as info. but the same was not available. (available in 6021)

  • Pathetic games - only one game. The rest requires GPRS and other expensive whatnots. ALso I was not able to mute the inbuilt game - It makes a loud noise. And I like silence.

  • Bad radio - I was not able to get it working. Also it requires the earphone cord to be attached to work. Also read on the net that it is a mono and not stereo in nature

  • Zero connectivity - no bluetooth. No infra red (!!??). In fact it seems that there is no way to connect this piece to a PC. however an alternate review in Mouthshut indicates that thereis indeed a cable available for this piece. Hope I can locate the same in bombay! That should indeed solve a lot of my problems. Else how the heck is a guy supposed to back up his / update his phone book??? Nokia are you listening. Who designed this anyway? is looks all that people want?

  • Navigation to various menu options - but then this is my first Nokia and am used to the ease of my previous reliance cell - LG2030 where I can punch in a number for that particular menu item!

  • Reception - I was unable to access the network from inside my office building. Sony erricson guys dont seem to complain though. Only us Nokia people were not able to access!

  • Lack of easier entry of called numbers to database

  • Lack of backup options (see connectivity issues above too)

Pros:

  • Beautiful body / colour (black). It can look quite sleek and nice. However its shiny body makes for an ideal environment for gathering fingerprints :-( end up looking quite messy

  • Colour screen - but then every other piece today comes with a colour screen

  • Nice numeric pad keys. However the joystick kind of buttons (which incidentally is not a joy stick - can be easily damanged when people try to use it as a joystick) are bad to use. I am just unable to get it right.

I shall attempt to add to this article as and when I get more points. But this is it for now.

I have come away with a feeling that I have paid a premium for a substandard product just becuase of the Nokia brand name.

What do you feel?
