Just want to narrate a bitter experience I have had with Nokia and their service.
Bought a Nokia Mobile 5130 Express music little longer than a year back. Almost immediately after completing a year, the phone stopped functioning and was giving out a message " Contact Service ". When I took it to The mobile Stores, Chennai, they said it is a SW issue and advised me to take it to the Nokia Service Center and it shouldn't cost much. I took the phone to Veetee Communications, Adyar, Chennai on 30th Aug. They looked at the phone and said 1. It may cost about 80% of the phone cost to get the phone repaired 2. there is also a possibility that the phone may not be reparable. Either way, they would let me know once the Technical Dept. inspects the phone and would revert with the an estimate of the cost. On my confirmation of the cost by me, they would proceed to carry out the repair.
- This complete process would be completed and the phone would be delivered in 1 week's time duly repaired.
After repeated follow up, the last of which was yesterday (14th Sep.), I got a call this morning (15th Sep) after 17 days, from Veetee Communications, Adyar that they have already carried out the repair and that I had to pay Rs 1578/= and collect the phone.
My issues are:
How can they carry out the repair without my approval of the cost?
Why should I spend Rs. 1500/= to repair a phone that only costs Rs 4000/=
Why should anyone buy a Nokia phone paying 3 or 4 times the price of a comparable Chinese or Indian make when the Nokia only lasts 1 year and the quality of service is pathetic.
Isn't it wise to buy a new non Nokia mobile for rs 1500 or so instead of getting the Nokia phone serviced ?
The most irritating aspect is there is no one responsible in the company to escalate to. There is a group mail id and a call center no. both of which give standardised, pre drafted replies as if picking options from a drop down list. Quite frustrating to say the least. No wonder, Nokia is losing market share. Personally I have decided never again to buy a Nokia in my life.
Hope some one is listening and if not the market will teach a lesson.
