Value for Money:

This is probably now the best value for money phone in the medium range price from Nokia. It has got all the features that one can think in a mobile phone.

To start with, first is the camera: a 1.3MP camera which is good enough to take a small size photo. The camera comes with a built in night mode, and yes, there is a difference while using the night mode. The camera can be used to take both still images and videos.

Another feature that I like is the easy to use joystick. Unlike the other model, 6600, you can customise the menu shortcuts on the joystick movements (up, down, right, left).

The phone has a visual FM radio built in as well. Though visual radio is currently not available in India, but sooner or later, it will come out. The MP3 files can be played used the default player or a host of other free MP3 players that can be downloaded easily.

The phone has both Infrared and Bluetooth for wireless connectivity, and the option to connect to the PC using the data cable and the downloadable Nokia PC Sync Suite. Applications, Games, Ringtones, Wallpapers, etc. can be downloaded either directly using GPRS or from the net and then transferred using IR/ Bluetooth/ PC Sync.

The screen resolution is quite good and easily visible in sunlight. Battery life is ok, depends on the type of usage. If more games/ songs/ radio is used then the phone may be required to be charged daily, else on a normal voice usage, it can go for two days atleast.

There are other features like Push - to - talk which again I don't think is available in India and so one again has to wait to see the use of this feature.

The navigation keys are simple and easy to operate and the menu can be customised as per the wish. You can make your own folders and move the applications to them, just like a PC.

The phone looks pretty good and can go at all the casual/ formal/ official places. It comes in two colours: the conventional black and the maroon.

The memory card is expandable and can be replaced with a higher capacity one. Now 1GB memory chips are available (think of those days when a PC didn't have a 1GB HDD).

Rest all other regular features of a mobile phone are available.

On the flip side is the low RAM which at times makes the operation of the phone very slow. Again, this happens when lots of applications and games are loaded, else for only voice usage the phone speed is absolutely ok. Nokia should have kept a higher RAM as it should expect that no one will buy this phone only for calling/ receiving/ messaging. Probably a bigger memory would have made the operation of the phone also very easy while running some application or playing games.

Other flaw is the low voice specially using a speaker phone. Nokia could have easily done with a better quality of microphone and speaker.

For the photo caller id, the photos that come are too small at times to be recognised. There is no full screen photo caller id software which works on this model. Nokia should think of this application as well.

Another drawback is if the application is installed in the phone memory (not in the external card), it is not easy to uninstall it. There is no provision to format the internal phone memory.

The phone was launched at a much higher price, which I learn is now available under ten thousand, that makes it quite a good bet.

Looking at the current trend of mobiles in the country, this model is perhaps currently the best value for money from Nokia and despite the flaws, one should definitely explore this option before finally purchasing any model.
