Odd phone nokia 3230. Review on Nokia 3230

Yes, finally I have got my new nokia 3230 from a retail shop. This is a major and long upgrade from my old nokia 2300. let's see how it fairs at both the bads and the goods:

AND THERE IS AUTOMATIC KEYGUARD FEATURE: TO ENABLE GOTO MENU---> SETTINGS--->SECURITY--->PHONE AND SIM--->AUTOLOCK PERIOD. A MINUS IS EVERYTIME TO UNLOCK YOU HAVE TO ENTER THE SECURITY CODE (DEFAULT: 12345) AND NOT THE USUAL MENU1 + ''*'' KEY COMBINATION !!!!

bads first:

the keypad is a big issue that should be looked at before making a decision. People with big fingers might tend to press all keys together. the joystick is sandwiched in between the soft jeys and the call keys, which is rather uncomfortable at times. And adding to this is the clear and edit keys. They are beed sized and never find it easy to use. The vibration mode does not work in silent profile, A BAD MINUS!(now its fixed after a firmware upgrade to v 4.0526.2 15-08-05, check your version by ''*#0000#'' and verify above version number, and if it something lesser go for firmware upgrade).

Battery charge loses out in a day or less. So keep it plugged to a wall outlet @ home. Crashes when third party apps are stuffed into , but works blazing fast, and stable enough with generic software.

Camera is a good part when compared to the older sibblings. No one should compare this phone with 3230 but rather an easy comparable cousin of 7610. Video is very bad. Dont expect making matrix like movies using a phone camera. The auto exposure annoys the user very much. Night mode is pretty good, if u manage to avoid hand shake

After the firmware update the MP3 sound quality got much better, but yet mono. Since its the sound chip hardwired and not the firmware dont expect stereo sound for mp3 playback.

FM is stereo and sounds good. Loudspeaker can be used for both radio and mp3 playback. Note the loudspeaker in this phone is bullshit when compared to motorola, samsung, and sony ericsson models. even the midi tones sounds pathetic and horrible.. Power button at top is too hard but its well placed from accidental presses.

GOODS @ last:

This is a successor model of the old nokia 3650/3660 series. with not much overhaul to the core OS, but added some extra features

COOl looking large LCD TFT screen supporting 16 bit color. fast 123 mhz arm processor, despites the low 8 mb RAM, and 6 MB user space onboard. expandable memory upto 1 GB via dual voltage reduced size MMC(normal RSMMC too supported). MMC adapter is included to use the RSMMC with old legacy memory card readers, or other phones like 6600. can run most symbian applications such as quickoffice and opera browser. Good if not best for surfing net on the move. cool games that makes you play like james bond. Move your phone , and camera does motion capture and this movement is interpreted by the camera and is converted to game movements, how cool. !!

Symbian OS v6.0 2nd edition. Infrared, bluetooth and USB (DKU 2 and CA-53) /pop-port connectivity. PC suite software not supplied with box though available through https://nokia.com

After firmware upgrade a lot of thinks got fixed. Sync-ing with outlook is very nice. Whichever method you use to connect the phone (BT, IR, Cable) the PC suite detects them and syncs automatically with outlook (must be configured prior to connecting).

physical dimensions are not too worthy to say with a pride. Its definitely not the sexiest or smallest phone. Oh man, its a smartphone (rather not so smart) so its bulky, but slimmer than 6600. n70, n90 or even 6681 cannot be compared with this phone, but it feels happy to be in that series. Most bluetooth headsets are compatible(origi nokia).
